Dragonslayer & Epilogue, What's next?

Post » Sat Nov 02, 2013 8:19 am

So I just finished the Dragonslayer quest and said goodbye to all the Dovah atop the Throat of the World. Now what?

Is that it? Was that my 'epic' ending or is there some other task beside unfinished mundane side quests?

Is there really no reward for killing Alduin, even if he was easily defeated in a few seconds with five daedric arrows?

That just can't be it, can it?

What do I do now, play Minesweeper?

Imho Dragonborn and Dawnguard had better stories and endings. So maybe go do those.

You know this game has four major guilds, a Civil War, Daedric cults and three DLC, right?

You know that Mass Effect 3 has side quests, right?

Skyrim: Find alduin in sovngarde, kick him out of it, then done.

Dawnguard: Find the volkihar boss in the castle, kick him out, then done.

Dragonborn: Find Miraak in Hermeus Mora's realm, kick him out of it it, then done.

I don't quite see much difference.

Yes, I know. I put off the MQ until doing most everything else, including Dragonborn and much of Dawnguard. I just expected a bit more for the ending than another quick dragon kill among the myriad of other dragon kills throughout the game. It was just so bloody easy. I guess doing the other DLCs made my character too powerful to make Alduin a challenge. The battle literally went like this: Shout - ping (the sound of an arrow being launched), ping, ping, ping, done.

So I guess that means I can either finish up the last few side quests or start a new... *sigh*

Alduin for me too was the most dissapointing fight in the game.

I'm playing Skyrim with Requiem right now, I hope that that will provide the final clash I'm looking for it.

Agreed. Mirek was far more challenging. But then again, my character was at a much lower level then. Time to find some new mods...

True.

Gaming is what you the player make of it. I came from TS2 where I spent days designing a kitchen, learning to mesh and recolor, and then burning it down to start over. I played Sims 2 for years almost completely happy except for one small thing - I missed the killing. My friend turned me on to Skyrim and with all expansions I've been happier than a puppy in a Christmas mall display window. I tell people who aren't excited gaming that it's time you stopped playing and started making. Also, you might want to turn the game hardship up to Legendary?

To answer your question, there's no next. The journey is where it is at not the ending.

Yes, and they're very enjoyable. But I know what you mean and ouch, those are some bad memories. Skyrim doesn't compare.

I thought you started with the MQ and were at a loss after finishing it, but if you've already done all other interesting quests, then I guess there's nothing left except roleplaying. I agree, the final battle isn't as exciting as it could be, but I never cared about the main quest so I really can't complain. I wouldn't play Minesweeper, I'd make a new character and go on a new adventure.

Try a new character in a different style! After nearing 100% on New Vegas, I made a new playthrough with a melee oriented character (I'm usually a sniper) and it felt in some senses, like a whole new game to me. Try doing a different play style?

Harkon and Miraak were just more interesting boss battles. Also they seemed evil and essential to their story, whereas Alduin felt very tertiary. And Dragonborn was much better because you felt like the island was impacted by Miraak's presence and that you really saved people by getting involved. To me, Alduin was at worst an irritating over grown turkey vulture.

For me, Miraak was paralysis, Vampire Lord claw, repeat until he got tentacled stabbed :P

That is what I will undoubtedly do. I am currently reviewing mods and will try playing again with a different style at a harder level.

Default. It was my first play through. I know I can set it to a harder level, but that wasn't really the issue. I just wanted more of an ending. It has kind of become the norm that Bethesda games have lousy endings.

Any fight above the default difficulty setting is leaps and bounds more difficult compared to Adept. You should also limit yourself to 1 profession. Using enchanting and alchemy loops makes you [censored] strong.

Uh, no wonder you thought the battle was too easy. Default difficulty doesn't offer much of a challenge. With or without good writing, steamrolling the final boss always feels anticlimactic - try a higher difficulty next time, you'll notice the difference.
