Are Follower Missions Worth It?

Post » Sun Nov 03, 2013 2:02 am

I made an earlier thread that was basically a rant on how unbelievably stupid the Follower AI is and how frustrating it is to keep them alive on HC mode. Normally, I'd never reload when a follower dies (many a dead follower in games like Skyrim). But NV gives you an opportunity to complete pet missions for your followers, often times leading you through areas where they just won't survive without you micromanaging their intellectual deficiencies, thus I've found myself reloading several times to resurrect the inept... and it sort of pisses me off. So, my questiom is, are the payoffs worth all of the trouble or should I just leave their cold useless corpses in the dirt?

Many have said to get then the best armour and weapons and everything will be fine, but how? I'm level 15, I've managed through a variety of tasks and scavenging to amass a cap account of 5,500. I myself don't have the *best* equipment and I've been saving to upgrade my own and for implants. The last thing I want to do is spend my money on a dummy that is useless in battle.

You get unique and powerful items from/while doing some of them. Since your low on money, you just need to get one set of armor for them and switch it to the next. Also charisma increases their damage and dt somewhat.

I usually have a follower and complete their quest. They may be worthless in combat, but they are so well written that having them around is nice

As opposed to Skyrim, where i never have (non modded) followers, because they are worthless in combat and never say nothing worth anything.

Yep. In Skyrim, they are really only to help you in fighting but don't have any interesting pet quests tied to them nor interesting dialogue. But they are much better in battle than NV. The characters are more interesting in NV but are absolute [censored]e during fighting. You can't win, I guess. I'll have to spring for some better armour for Veronica then. I want to see the BoS in NV so I have an interest in her pet quest.

Ok. This is what I was looking for. I don't like looking at game guides so I'd rather ask the question in forums. If there are unique items, then I'll bite a hole in my bottom lip in frustration and grind through it. I don't like the followers enough to waste points in Charisma, so that isn't an option for me.

I do enjoy the background stories with Veronica and Arcade. This game is mostly about NCR and the Legion, so its always refreshing to get back stories on the Enclave and BoS.
