Constatly crashing Skyrim

Post » Mon Nov 04, 2013 6:36 am

Hello

It has only began today, I have installed no new mods, and after uninstalling all mods it still kept crashing. It crashes within first few minutes of play. Why is this happening? Thanks.

how many saves do you have ????

If you enable your modes again, which save is loading without giving you a CTD ???

What is a CTD? - do you mean a crash. In which case, I can load up any of the saves and it will crash.

A little bit more information: When it crashes, when I try and re-load immediately afterwards it tells me my files couldn't sync with the "steam cloud" - although I get this from time to time and it has no impact on play. Would going into offline mod/giving it time fox the issue

I have 5553 saves, do I need to "trim this" to fix it?

I recommend turning off the steam cloud saves. They might be fine with vanilla play but as soon as you start playing any game with mods that feature causes more headaches than anything. Sometimes Steam might lose a sync with the game especially when you close and exit the game or when Skyrim Crashes to desktop. When the game launches next time it detects that there is a mismatch of game saves and wants to over write the game saves. When dealing with mods that could mean a greater chance for instability if it will load. I have tonnes of issues with Steam keeping sync and most of the time offline mode does not work since my internet is not that great and sometimes the offline mode account gets corrupted on my pc and states I need to be online due to the corruption.

I just manually backup game saves if I even really care about keeping saves. I usually do not keep characters that long and just delete then on a regular basis. I have made well over 100 characters in my few months of playing Skyrim.

You possibly might be pushing it with the game saves since I know some of the earlier TES games usually started having problems after 200 or so saves active. At least it sounds like you are not overwriting game saves since that might lead to a greater chance of a save corruption.

I am usually hesitant on removing mods from a game save since some mods are really hard to uninstall cleanly and will leave mod residue in the game save file and might cause issues later on.

You're joking, right?
We try to advise players to save their games regularly...
But even 1/10th of those saves would in fact be too many.

I see. No, I didn't create a thread to joke around, since I know lots of people need help :tops:

Well, the issue seems to of cleaned up, although ill keep the advice in mind. I don't overwrite anymore because I have lost too many characters through it.

And multiple/regular characters isn't what I do...you see I have had Uthred of Winstad since last winter

Once I hit the 6k ceiling I plan to chop down my saves, but im loath to do it since some old characters/memories are stored there and I would be sad to lose them forever. Im a bit of a save addict due to bugs/crashes/sudden deaths and loseing a lot of content etc.

:thanks:

If you want to keep previous saves, just archive them and move them somewhere else. They only cause issues if they're in the directory where the game looks for them. Notably, a large number of saves in that directory will slow down the menu for saving/loading.
