If Skyrim was released on 111112...

Post » Sat Nov 09, 2013 6:27 pm

I sometimes hear people mention that this game was rushed out a little too soon, and that the developers weren't able to put in everything they wanted to in order to get the game out on time. Let's say they had another year to work on the game; what are some of the changes, major and minor, do you think we would see? I didn't read or watch anything about the game before it was released, so I missed out on a lot of the hype and rumors about how the game was supposed to be. I know many of you followed it's development with interest, and I am curious to know how closely the game that was released resembles the one they had envisioned.

There's no doubt stuff like the Civil War would have been a drastic improvement. It's a shame that something that was supposed to be, and in theory was, such a huge part of the game was a massive mess of an unfinished questline. Honestly it looks like an essay a kid tried to complete about an hour before it was due: Decent introduction and conclusion and a bunch of boring and uninspired rubbish throughout the meat of it. Season Unending and several other quests would have been vastly improved and maybe during that time Bethesda could have hired better writers in general. Honestly looking towards FO4 and TES 6, Bethesda needs writers like Africa needs food and drinking water.

Also, perhaps they could have expanded more on Nord culture. We probably would have had an arena and maybe Todd could have got the engine to work with spears...

But in the end there would have been complaints from hordes of kids about it being 'delayed'. 11 11 11 should have never been a definitive release date.

I would have preferred more guilds, like the Imperial Cult, Fighters Guild, and perhaps the East Empire Company being joinable.

More importantly a more optional, less pushy, Main Quest, along with that an expanded Civil War questline that didn't require the Main Quest and dragons spawning would have made it feel more like an ES game.

The PS3 DLC crisis would probably have been worse and if it was still fixable, it would probably freeze the PS3 every 5 minutes.
If they worked on vanilla for another year then added the 3 DLCs, I doubt the PS3 and Xbox could handle it.

You can play the "woulda, coulda shoulda" game all you want. Why not if it came out 11/11/13? Why not wait till 11/11/14? The fact of the mater is they had to pick a date to stop for the sake of actually surviving as a company. They make next to no money between games, so they have to get something out if they want to stay afloat.

For the release of 11/11/11, they did a greate job with what they have, and I couldn't begin to demand more, that just seems like entitlement for no valid reason.

What if every single game had an extra year of development? They would probably all be better. Aduh.

So why couldn't they just make it PC exclusive initially and then maybe just port it to PS4 and/or Xbox One at a later time? If it was about investment, well....it's not like they needed to have every line of dialogue voiced or spent so much on marketing. Skyrim probably would have been a lot better had they gone back to text-only dialogue for general conversations. Hiring several television and cinema actors for one-off roles isn't going to absolve the unfinished content and excessive streamlining (I didn't even know who half those actors were).

Not necessarily...one reason why Stalker: Lost Alpha is in development. GSC cut a heck of a lot of content after 2005, so all of that extra time on the original STALKER counted for very little. More time isn't always synonymous with more and better content; a developer can spend too long on something and start to chop and change as a result. There's not rushing things, then there's giving yourself so much time you become indecisive or second guess yourself.

I have this horrible feeling TES6 will have excellent voice actors like Michael Bell and Simon Templeman voice cringe-inducing lines. Though, Templeman as Alduin would have been all kinds of awesome.

"Let's drop the moral posturing, shall we? We both know there's no altruism in this pursuit. Your recklessness lead you here, I counted on it! There's no shame in it, Dovahkiin. Self-interest is motivation enough, at least it's honest."

Though if Tony Jay had been around, he'd have made an excellent Hermaeus Mora.

"I can see into your heart, Miraak. It is not your will, but cowardice, that keeps you here."

"How so?"

"You know what fate awaits you when you leave the Apocrypha. The dragons around your temple are a constant reminder, aren't they? The last of your kind awaits you out there somewhere, and you tarry here as not to meet him."

I remember Todd saying you would be able to sabotage the mill in places like Riverwood which would affect the economy. Yeah that didn't happen.

He also said there would be unique puzzles for each dungeon and it wouldn't just be dragon claws. Turns out it is the same puzzles and only dragon claws.

Another year of development and there would have probably been an arena, spears, a good story, beast race children a lot less bugs and quite a lot more.

Bethesda always puts on a "definitive release date" so their games are nothing like what we expect. The tes group would have a conniption if they pushed it back.

Jarl follows Falion. Jarl does nothing, says nothing. Who knows what might have happened?

You mean the quest where the Jarl wants you to follow Falion but Falion just goes to his house and does nothing?
