I currently have two Dunmer builds, one of them I like very much, the other... I'm struggling with. I'll tell you a little about dem both.
The first is the one I do like.
Name: Derravis
Age: 191
Class: Warrior Archer
Skills: Heavy Armour, Smithing, One-Handed, Block, Archery, Alchemy, Restoration, Speech.
Backstory: When the Red Mountain erupted, Derravis' parents took him from Morrowind to Chorrol in Cyrodiil. However, the ash and arduous journey took its toll on his parents who perished shortly after his arrival. He was then raised by Modryn Oreyn of the Fighters Guild, who inducted him into the Guild when he came of age. He fought in the Guild for many years before being drafted into the Chorrol Garrison during the Great War. There, he aided the Anvil Legions in the battle against the Dominion. With the looming defeat of the Empire's forces, Derravis was sent to deliver the news to the Count of Chorrol, escaping the battle.
However, after informing the Count, a Dunmer assassin from the Dark Brotherhood killed the Count. Various reports 'confirmed' that Derravis was the only Dunmer remotely near the palace at the time, and he was chased out of Chorrol with a death bounty on his head. He escaped north to Bruma, only to discover more guards waiting for him. He traveled further north to Skyrim, where he worked in Falkreath Hold for nearly thirty years. However, he become homesick and, knowing that the old Count would have surely passed on by now and that the bounty would be forgotten, he attempted to travel back. However, he was caught between rebel forces and those of the Empire. He was arrested and sentenced to death in the village of Helgen.
Then there's Devarii. A mage. I've not had any success with Mage's in the past, so I figured I'd try a new one.
Name: Devarii
Age: 26
Class: Mage (likes to carry a sword or dagger for backup)
Skills: Speech, Light Armour, Destruction, Illusion, Alteration, Conjuration, Restoration, Alchemy, One-Handed.
Backstory: Devarii lived a relatively quite life as a child. She lived in Blacklight until she turned 19, when she left her family to study magic at the College of Winterhold in Skyrim after the Mage Tolfdir (a family friend and former shield-brother of her father) insisted that the child would benefit from the talented teachers and isolation of the College.
Due to bandits and reavers on the border, Devarii was forced to travel through Cyrodiil to Bruma, then eventually to Skyrim and Falkreath and from there she would hire a carriage to take her to the College. But Imperial soldiers mistook her for a Stormcloak spy (as they knew that Windhelm was home to many Dark Elves). She escaped capture with a Stormcloak Nord called Ralof. He told her about the rebellion, saying how the Empire had no place in Skyrim, and she agreed. After all, the Empire attempted to hold down Morrowind despite removing virtually all standing Legions during the Oblivion Crisis. (She knew this well, as she is fascinated with history). She said that she would join the fight against the Empire, and went to Windhelm as a stop on her way to the College.
When she saw the Dark Elves living in the slum she was furious, and almost challenged Ulfric directly. She stayed in a cornerclub in the Grey Quarter where she met many fellow Dunmer. That's when she realized. The Dunmer would have done better for themselves had they not been so proud and stubborn and instead work with the Nords rather than segregate themselves. She still vowed to join Ulfric, and works against the Empire where she can.
She traveled then to Solstheim to meet with her aunt, Cindiri Arano, and decided to stay. She still travels to Skyrim frequently to study at the College and relay messages between the College and the citizens of Raven Rock, many of whom have ties with the College.
What I'm struggling on with Devarri is the gameplay aspect. I enjoy role-playing and I love the Dunmer, but playing as a Mage is... tedious, at best. I'm struggling to find a fun mage to play that fits the role of Devarii, who is by nature timid but strong. And for Derravis, what Guilds and questlines would he do? He's mostly good but has a tendency to be... cold hearted. Help plz?
