Where are my manners?

Hi everyone

This has been bothering me for years now. When I'm out adventuring, sometimes I come across someone who asks me to relay a message or make a delivery to someone else. More often than not, when I get to that location it is getting late, but not too late, and the people are in their homes. This poses a problem to me, as I'm suddenly either going to have to wait for several hours, which isn't good when the person seems to think this is an urgent matter, or just barge into the stranger's home, which seems rude, or, if late enough, pick the lock and break in, which I know is rude.

Why can't I just knock on the door? Let them come answer it if they're awake, and have a speech check (the difficulty of passing would increase the later it is) to see if I can come in?

This would certainly help with some scripted events like Cicero and Loreius. Instead of Loreius tending to his crops in the middle of the night, he could be inside, and I'd have to talk to him through the door until I convinced him to let me in.

Am I the only one bothered by this? I know barging into people's homes is kinda par for the course when it comes to RPGs, but it seems like games like this should offer another way.

What do you think?

I'm not bothered by it. It's a small detail that would take too much work to do to be worth it.

Sure I wouldn't mind it at all but there are bigger problems in the game (or gaming in general) that I would have changed.

I actually really like that idea. Gives more interaction with the world and makes the Speech stat less useless.

I agree that would be an interesting idea for a future TES game.
