New To All Of This. Need Advice

Post » Sat Nov 16, 2013 12:27 pm

Hello all,

Girlfriend and I are new to the world of any type of gaming. She has played Skyrim at some point but not very much. She wants to play more. We've never owned a gaming console but are looking to buy one. Are there advantages to one over the other or does it all come down to personal preference. We are looking at either the XBox One or the PS4. Any help and general guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Kris and Clay

Skyrim will not be available for the Xbox One or PS4..

it is only available for PS3, XBOX360, and the PC...

If you want the most bang for your buck, PC has Mods which help extend the life of the game...

funnybunny - she wants a console cause she wants to play other games, and we have a niece that is with us all the time as well. And it seems the console would be a cheaper route than what i've seen for pc gaming systems.

For Skyrim as far as I know the XBox 360 is the better console to run it. I do not own any consoles but I do know that the PS3 took a long, long time to get any of the DLC's for it.

As for if only looking at the new consoles I have no idea which one is better since I do not plan on getting any of them, I am thinking of getting a xbox 360 and a PS3 when the prices for them start to drop. More so to get Diablo III and the TES games.

The XBox One and the PS4 are brand new consoles, so for the moment, there aren't going to be as many games available for them. OTOH, any new game releases in the future will be written for these consoles, so over time there will be a huge selection of titles to choose from. These consoles are not backward compatible - games written for the current generation consoles (the XBox 360 and the PS3) cannot be played on the new (soon to be current generation) consoles. Sony has discussed making some older games available for the PS4, but that will be handled by hosting them on their own servers and streaming them over their network, and the number of older titles will probably be quite limited.

The decision comes down to which games you are most interested in playing. If you're going to play older games and the majority of games that are on the market right now, you're best off sticking with one of the current generation consoles (XBox 360 or PS3). If you're mainly going to play games that will be coming out over the next few years, you need to be looking at the XBox One or PS4, and waiting for the game releases.

If you're going to be picking a console for Skyrim, then get the Xbox 360. Its more stable than the PS3 (PS3 verison is stable too if you know what you're doing).

Skyrim isn't even on the next gen consoles. The PS4 released today and the Xbox One next week...

Get the 360. Find a bundle you like with 2 controllers and have at it.

I would go with the 250gb Hard drive since you might want to download some games and likely want to install the games and not run from the disk, especially for games like Skyrim.

The 250 is always a good choice. You can never have enough space.

Actually, that is a misconception for Skyrim. There was some extensive testing done on the release and it clearly shows a difference in favor of running directly from the disk and not installing it on the HDD.

I know it sounds bass akwards... but the loads are faster by a good 20 seconds, in most cases. The lag is reduced in certain areas and the overall performance is improved.

I play Skyrim on the xbox 360 slim, 250gb. I have hardly no problems at all. You might want to get an exterior fan to go on it, which costs about $10. You should buy the Skyrim legendary Edition which has everything including the latest patch. Amazon, com would be the best source for purchasing one. Also purchase a couple of thumb drives, (flash drives) so you can use them to save your "excess" games on. You can install the game on the xbox and it will give you better definition, but you will still have to have the disk in it to play it. Happy gaming.

OK. Just ordered a 360 250gb. Comes with Halo, Tomb Raider, headset and one controller. Bought another wireless controller and Legendary Edition.

Thanks for the advice everyone. It is appreciated!!
