Weapon and armor weights are ridiculous

Anyone who knows anything about weapons knows that the weights are all wrong. A 20 pound one handed sword? Try 2 or 3 pounds. A 50 pound cuirass? Have fun with that.

I hope they straighten this out in the next game.

Go pick up a twelve pound sledge hammer. Now try to swing it around quickly with one hand. How try to dual wield two of them. Not so fun, is it?

What makes you think that people of Tamriel measure weight in pounds? Besides, it's a game. If it was realistic, our characters wouldn't be able to carry a quarter of what they can now.

If weapon weights are in pounds they do get rather ridiculous, armour though it depends on a few things. Full plate is around 50-60lbs depending on the design so it is possibly in the right region.

Truth be told, if Beth uses pounds for weight limit then out the gate on Skyrim anybody can carry around a rather large person's dead weight and it's not just equipment that has odd values, coins, junk and other things are a bit wonky at times. That said, it's an series decision by the looks since while they can alter the masses of items, most games using Beth's engine seem to be similar in terms of some item weights.
