Shove

Post » Fri Apr 23, 2010 10:38 am

So I know it may be a bit late for suggestions, but I was playing Oblivion the other day as a bow using character, and an idea occured to me.

It would be sooo useful to have the ability to shove an enemy back while fighting. Give players some breathing room to get off that one last swing/arrow/spell. Also handy for moving wandering npcs out of the way (or off cliffs...?).

Or just make it so that a well timed block would "stagger" an enemy and give you a second to counter attack.

Basically like the Oblivion system, but more intentional, predictable and reliable.

Maybe shield bash if you have one and kick if you don't.

That could work too. How would you determine what was well timed?

You should be able to melee with bows and staves.

Staves, yes
Bows, no

How would one melee (or for the OP, push away) with a bow? Think about the reality of the bowstring in the way, or keeping your arrow nocked, or pushing off then drawing and firing an arrow.

It's about REALITY!!!! ;)

+1.

Hopefully with a nice sound effect and stagger animation.

The thread name reminded me of the "OUTTA THE WAY!" function in the Might and Magic games ^^ aah good times. But ya maybe some kind of shove or kick, but you'd have to figure out a system so it would always be a last option and not something that could be abused

Go for the groin, Boo! Go for the GROIN!!

Boom! Groin shot!

Oy, the visuals that just came to mind!

Um...so on topic:

What if a bow was enchanted with some sort of "repulse enemy" spell.

The way the guards shoved you around in Assassin's Creed was pretty good. They need some people in town who do that.

Or you could just get a melee weapon... Being in close combat and all. Unless you're suicidal.

You should be able to melee with bows and staves.

Feel free to try that in a hunting store with a friend. Make sure you have enough money on you to cover the "you break it, you buy it" policy.
I would like melee staves though. I'd also like to be able to enchant basic staves and use them like the current ones.

On topic though, I like the idea of a kick that knocks through shields. Unless you have a massive weapon (read:warhammer) and high strength/skill then it is impossible to break someone's block. I'd like a kick that ONLY works on blocks. So basically it goes as follows:
Kick with enemy shield down-> Small damage, does not stagger enemy. This one leaves you open to getting own'd.
Kick with enemy shield up-> Small damage, staggers enemy, chance of dropping shield depending on your strength+hand-to-hand. This one totally destroys their shield and lets them get destroyed.
This makes hand-to-hand more useful (read:makes it worth choosing as a skill) and gives shield who#%s a real not to hide behind it.

Alright, maybe I should have included more than a wink to infer my half-heartedness

On topic:

When blocking with a bow in OB, were you ever able to do a stagger at high levels? But I still think the "push spell" would be a better idea for bow
