No, the latest patch is the only way to go.

If you find someone on PC that have skyrim with the 1.4 patch maybe he can convert it to your PS3.

But downloading the standalone 1.4 patch for the PC version, if it's available would be illegal anyway, as the updates goes straight away from steam to your game.

after that i don't know how someone could implement the 1.4 patch to a vanilla PS3 skyrim save...

The only thing that someone could do to a PS3 savefile is to decrypt you PS3 gamesave and re-encrypt back after modding.

• Select a different race or gender
• Fix broken quests
• Fix broken dialog
• Cleanup your quest log from logs that will not remove
• Add any items
• Remove unremovable quest items
• Increase your carry weight
• Increase your damage dealth (insta-kill)
• Increase your run speed
• Increase health/stamina/magicka
• Cleanup Ash piles/dead dragons/dead people that will not auto cleanup
• Resurrect dead NPCs
• Increase followers skills and health/stamina/magicka
• Add perks
• Add all spells
• Add all shouts
• Add dragon souls
• Add money
• Create semi custom vanilla weapons (only if they exist in the vanilla game, not in ESP/ESM file, and more

...and that's legal because it's relies on OFW firmware.
