Dawnguard Initial Hostility

Post » Tue Nov 19, 2013 3:14 pm

Does anyone know why the Dawnguard guy (Isran?) is instantly hostile toward me when I enter the Dawnguard castle to join? My character is not a vampire or werewolf and has zero assaults/murders and I have never accidentally hurt/killed a member of the Vigilence of Stendarr. Also, loading previous saves doesn't help either. It's REALLLLLYYYY frustrating because I made this character specifically to become a volikar vampire and now I can't even start the Dawnguard questline. Any help or suggestions are much appreciated.

It looks like it's a glitch of some kind. If it happens again, open the console, click on the character that is hostile to you and use both the commands

disable

enable

one after another. It should be sufficient. If the character is still hostile, your player actually did something that triggered the situation (even if you don't know what).

Thanks, I'll try that tonight!

I've never done that before so are you saying I need to:

  • open console with ~
  • left click on the hostile character with mouse
  • type disable hit enter
  • type enable hit enter
  • then close console?

You got it!

You can use the very same method if you have problems of all kind with npc. I had to use this countless times with Serana, who tend to get stuck in sneak position even if you are not sneaking, or who couldn't move at all when we were in the Soul Cairn. The command

resetai

is also useful but less efficient.

Thanks again! I sure hope this works because I was just starting to get my character's equipment/skills to where I wanted them. I'd be a shame to have to start over. :)

They will also be aggressive if you have a bounty anywhere.

Yep but no bounty or any crime committed by this character.

Found them all to be hostile. I was attacked before I got to the main gate. Originally, I thought it was due the game recording the PC as a werewolf long after the cure. I used a wide spreading calm humanoid spell to get in.

Hmm for me it only happens when I actually go inside of the castle and Isran is talking to the Vigilant guy. My character isn't a magic user, so the calm spell is out.

If disabling doesn't work, other commands you can try with the console, although I'm not sure if they'd break the game, are:-

stopcombat (self-explanatory)

setrelationshiprank 14 3 (makes the target regard you as a friend. 14 is your reference, 3 is the rank. Set it to 4 if you want to see if he'll marry you!) :)

addfac 5a1a4 1 (adds him to the player ally faction 5a1a4, 1 means that he's in. 0 means he's out).

Good luck!

By the Nine! So far nothing has worked. Multiple "Israns" along with the other new recruit Agramn (spelling?) will spawn in that main chamber and attack me. If i go outside and come back in then everyone has disappeared and I can't do anything. Disabling, waiting in a different cell, etc hasn't worked yet. Tomorrow I'm going to try to join Dawnguard with a different character to see if it's character related. If that doesn't work I will try you suggestions here and if that STILL doesn't work i guess I will uninstall Dawnguard, make a fresh save, and reinstall. What a pain in the [censored].

You can just try those commands I listed. They won't break your game in the sense that a simple reload of an old save will undo everything you've keyed in, so in that sense it's fairly safe to try. Also make sure that it is Isran who is initiating combat with you, and not someone else in the room which makes him assist.
