A full out war with soldiers you choose, gear and train.
This idea is for either Skyrim or Fallout or both.
I got this idea while reading the pre-release synopsis for Honest Hearts. A run and gun style progression event. I believe this was also the intent in Lonesome Road and certain came closer to that concept than HH did.
While this is all well and good I have never seen the expansion I have wanted to play. Even after 8 fallout expansions and a pair of Skyrim expansions nothing has come close to this war with the exception of people playing around with the world editor. Those videos with 100 skeletons fighting 100 wolves proved to me that my concept was more than possible with the engine both games utilize. I also think this idea would have a lot of replay and may even be repeatable so that end game has more life too it.
Thinking back to the tribe in Honest Hearts. I was disappointed that I could not toss down a pile of gear and weapons for the tribe before they began the end battle of that expansion. It is that concept of gear up a group I would like to see. It would give me something to do with the pile of items I have back at my base.
So here is the concept. It is flexible so I will explain it in steps.
1. Get soldiers;
Imagine 10 companion players sitting around a base similar to the Dawnguard in Skyrim. They do not follow you like true companions and only leave their base during "War" events.Or perhaps their predisposed proficiency is why you chose them over other characters you could of chosen. It would also be nice if you could select or "hire" these companions from other areas in the game. Companions themselves could also be used, preferably after the player has completed all of the companion based quests. I've dismissed a companion to complete other companion quests many times. This would give them new life after this point.
2. Gear them.
These companions will all wear gear and use weapons you give them while talking to them at the base. This will give use to the 2nd, 3rd down to 10th best items you have. You would be able to make them work on a weapon proficiency so that you can choose if they will be melee or ranged and adjust combat distance just like current companions do. This will give replay to unique armor and weapons that the player has accumulated.
3. Train them.
Take 1 out as a companion and get their level up. You can keep track of their skill points and get them where they need to be. This has the most end game potential as the player may already be level capped. This would give the player something else to work on after this point. Alternatively they shoot target dummies similar to Dawnguard. Or duel each other similar to the camp in Honest Hearts.
4. Time for War
War events would be different than regular fights. The player may or may not participate depending on the type of war being played. This is where things get interesting as some wars the player may lead the charge or snipe off enemies from the back. Alternatively they may be put in a booth that keeps them from participating in the war but lets them view it. It all depends on the event and this is where development and experiment will yield the best type of war and objectives the player wants to accomplish. There are many different "reasons" the player has to be in the booth such as being the only one capable of using an anti-air device to protect their army or any other story type element.
5. Endless Wars
After a war, the soldiers will need healing or replacement for the next harder war. Continue raising the difficulty. There should be several wars. Each one harder than the next. It should not be just about out numbering. Perhaps the next war is against fire monsters and fire weapons and enchants will be useless or will be completely immune to energy weapons. This would make the player adjust the gear of the army. There are so many options I could do a post on just the kind of wars I'd like to see. It is nearly a new kind of game play which is why it leads into so many areas. It should also never stop, the last three kinds of war should be repeatable and should have a score so that players can track and compare their scores. When I think of these wars I imagine a sort of solo multiplayer map like capture the flag or occupy the objective games.
6. Multiplayer
"My army can beat your army!" This will be something players will want to see after they have won every war. Even if this doesn't happen at least they can compare scores. This again becomes interesting when you think about players participating in one type and only allowing the soldiers to fight in others.
So there is my idea for endgame play. It applies to both Skyrim and Fallout because I use elements from both and would like to see this one day and I'm not particular where I see it. If this doesn't get made at least its an interesting idea for a mobile app game.
