Would be nice to play skyrim on next gen consoles

Post » Sun Nov 24, 2013 6:43 pm

Wait! don't kill me yet!

I wish i could play skyrim on my Xbox One, I gave my 360 to my brother because his died. How cool would it be if it didn't take any man power for them to release it for X1 and PS4? Of course i don't want it to distract from them making their next game.

Basically i'm having withdrawal symptoms.

Oh... I thought The PS4 and Xbox One could play PS3 and 360 games.

No, different processors on both. They are closer to an pc than to the previous generation. However you could not run the pc version as they don't run windows.

And yes it would be nice and would probably sold pretty well however I doubt the engine is so easy to port.

Fallout 4 will be for next gen consoles however I guess they do some serious rewriting of the engines for it anyway making it not compatible with skyrim

Exactly. 360 and PS3 are essentially based on PowerPC-architecture while Xbox One and PS4 are based X86-architecture. Those architectures are completely different and any software written for one will never work on the other.

For actual question: Why would Bethesda release Skyrim on Xbox One or PS4? What's the real benefit? After all if one wants to get better graphics, controls, etc. he or she makes the absolute obvious choice: buys the PC version which has been available since the beginning.

It might happen due to it's popularity, but not anytime soon. Probably in a couple of years when they know less and less people will still own those last gen consoles.

Probably a good idea. If it's not practical to reconfigure, it's not practical.

Since I'm unlikely to get a Nextgen console for some time (I'm going to enjoy the glut of cheap PS3 games that will result from the PS4 and XB1's emergence), it's irrelevant for me. I still have a working PS2 for crying out loud!

However unlikely it is to happen I'd love to see it. However there is a caveat in my case.

At some point in the future I'll get an X-Box 1 but in the meantime I'm going to be carrying my 360 offshore with me since I have a television already set up on the workboat. If they ever make the systems backwards compatible by installing a program that will run the older games I would see that as a plus, I could leave my 360 offshore and play my games at home.

That would make a lot of sense to me. I believe Microsoft could add the program that would do it. It would make the more expensive system more desirable by adding a plethora of older games to their stable and I see that as far more likely than Beth changing the program to adapt it to the next generation systems.

If Apple can make their computers able to run Windows then Microsoft can make the program necessary to make the 1 backwards compatible.

Mac's are also x86 pc's running an unix variant. They are also supplied with functionality to run windows as most of the software is windows software and its pretty simple functionality.

As I understand One runs windows 8 for the menu however games does not run under win 8. It however should be tempting for MS as an quick way to give access to more games. No you could probably not run pc games directly but far easier than making the game run on an new OS:

You would not be able to emulate PS3 or 360 games, yes you can emulate old systems like PS2 and older however if you emulate an totally different type of cpu this creates an 10x overhead. At the time PS5 is released you will probably be able to play PS3 games on an new powerful pc, or you could play TES 8 on the PS5 :)
