Hi all,
I'd been playing through my PC version of New Vegas the other day, determined to actually finish the game (something I hadn't accomplished when the game was first released). I had been going the NCR route, but have also tried to be friendly with the BoS, which is what led to my particular problem. I (almost unintentionally actually) allowed Paladin Hardin to become the new Elder before reaching the point in the story where I'm supposed to deal with the BoS for the NCR (part of "For The Republic Part II"), and I now realize that having done this allows for no diplomatic method of completing this part of the quest. (This really was an oversight as far as I'm concerned...)
I didn't like that. So I decided to take matters into my own hands! I opened up the console and hit "SetStage 00136166 60", which I thought would put me at the next stage of the quest and let me bypass this bit of unpleasantness. And it sort of did. Except now I think the quest is broken.
My current objective is apparently to talk to Ranger Grant about the NCR president. When I attempt this, however, I have no dialogue options, only "Goodbye." And going to the colonel doesn't help either; she still wants me to deal with the BoS. And trying to set the quest at an earlier stage appears to have no effect whatsoever.
So now I'm at a loss. I don't want to have to murder the whole Brotherhood of Steel just to continue. Can I use other means to continue the quest?
