Poisons and Papyrus Scripting

I am currently working on a mod that will add several poison effects to the game. However, these effects will have several scripted effects.

My problem is in two parts:

1) When the player applies a poison to the weapon, I need to be able to check if it was or was not successful in the scripts

2) I also need to be able to tell if the player decided not to apply the poison.

My problem is I can't find any scripted commands that deal with the poison potions. I'd really like to know what happens when the player equips a poison, where that effect is stored (on the weapon data), and is it possible to work with it through papyrus?
