I need bear pelts

Post » Thu Nov 28, 2013 4:21 am

Is there a cave anywhere that is guaranteed to have bears, not cave bears or snow bears, spawn in it? I need to kill some to finish decorating Lakeview Manor and I'm at a high enough level that I've stopped running into them in the wild.

edit - I also need sabre cat teeth as well, so if anyone knows of a cave that has any sabre cats that inhabit it I would appreciate its location as well.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

You can find bear pelts in the following locations:

Broken Oar Grotto (7)

Cliffside Retreat (3)

Frostflow Lighthouse (2)

Hold on...you actually ran out of bears?

You were in the Rift right? Well, those locations REL put up should work for you. I would also try stores. As for Sabrecats, no lcoations come to mind.

Stillborn Cave also will have two at the least.

Edit. NVMD. Those are snow bears though I don't see the problem.

The sabre cats are a major problem (especially later in the game), because they never respawn (in interior or exterior areas) once killed due to a http://afkmods.iguanadons.net/index.php?/topic/3773-animal-respawn-in-the-wilderness/ (unless you play on PC with the Unofficial Patches). Your best bet to find the sabre cat teeth is to check with an alchemist.

Regular bears become a bit harder to find at higher levels, because they are replaced by the "tougher" cave bears in many areas. General merchants and "unnamed" hunters in the wilderness sometimes sell them too.

There are plenty of snow bears and cave bears, but I haven't seen a black bear in a loooooong time. And those are the ones I need to for my house. I haven't been able to find an alchemist that has any sabre cat teeth in their inventory, and the ones that I've killed haven't had any either. Its kind of like the large antlers I can't find, no matter how many deer I kill they never have any. Even though there are clearly antlers on them when I hunt them.

edit - thanks REL, will try those locations tomorrow when I get home from work.

Large Antlers and Sabre Cat Teeth aren't in alchemist inventories because of a bug (like Powdered Mammoth Tusks and Pearls). They can be found somewhat rarely in general goods stores. If you want to have a chance of unlocking those items in stores, you're gonna have to take the Merchant perk in the Speech skill tree. Stupid, but on the bright side the Merchant perk is one of the best perks in the entire game in my opinion.

I forgot about that bug. The Unofficial Patches must have fixed it, because I've seen them in alchemist's inventory without that perk.

I've always been jumped by a Sabre Cat outside the Dwemer ruin in the Reach where you find the quest with Zephyr - the name escapes me. The one with the earthquakes.
