Go explore and do stuff. Sell loot, do...whatever you want. Take a literal walk from Solitude to Riften and observe the scenery while beating up the monsters and bandits that dare cross your path every so often. Don't rush the game, don't think about it.

Oh, and if you see the Thalmor wandering around, kill them. They're basically the Nazis of Skyrim. Kill them and sell their loot to Belethor, then go pray to a shrine of Talos.

Do what you want and have fun doing it!

Advice:

Save your game a lot (don't depend on autosaves) and make sure to back up your older saves (if possible) to an external device or other location. This is very important in case you encounter a bug in the game that breaks a quest or messes up your game in some other way (which almost certainly will happen at some point). That being said, saving a lot will save you frustrations later on, but still try to enjoy the game in the process.

Why bother having a general forum when it restricts conversation? Pointless.

There has been a lot of good advice with the exception of jem, do the opposite of what he says.

The WIKI is good for finding ways around problems but is heavy with spoilers and the forumites are extremely happy to help if you get in a jam.

Outside of that I have very little to add except welcome to Skyrim, may you have endless hours of complete enjoyment from playing it.

I said the same thing because I didn't want a repeat of how I played Oblivion, which was 90% trying out mods and 10% playing. I think I lasted at best 2 weeks before I ended up on the Nexus.

Get the SkyUI mod. It improves the user interface sooooo much. If you use no other mod, use that.

Have fun, save often. Get a note pad and when you get an idea for a new character write it down. That won't prevent "restartitis" but it will help, as you know you won't forget your idea.

Get at least the unofficial patches, they are a big time help with glitches and bugs.
