MODs. What are they and how to download?

Post » Wed Dec 04, 2013 5:29 am

So I can see the smiles and hear the laughter.....

A few posts have recommended Mods to be installed to enhance the gameplay. I assume MODs are add ons created by gamers who wish to enhance the experience for all.

Is there a sticky, or another post that explains how mods should be installed, loaded, used, and where they are?

Thanks again!

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/?

Download their Nexus Mod Manager, after that just start browsing mods and after that it should be pretty self-explanatory.

Use http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/6/? to sort your load order (I think it's integrated in NMM?), always read installation instructions provided by the mod author, don't remove mods from an ongoing game. Oh, and have fun. ;)

Please remember, your not adding content to the game like adding MP3's to a playlist. You are recoding the game with mods. You are changing how the game program works. You need to learn how to install mods, resolve conflicts between the mods, and keep the game stable.

Also, if you have a character you care about, make back ups of those save files before adding any mods. Because, once you add a mod to a save, you are probably not going to be able to remove it from the game for that save.

There's a saying: Prep-work is the key to success.

Before you start downloading/installing mods, make sure you do your research on the positives and negatives of modding skyrim.

And read the mod page descriptions, lots of people don't and then get into trouble. Even read through the mod disscusions you will quickly know if the mod has problems or not.

Since someone mentioned Gopher.

Gopher has made a lot of videos about mods for Skyrim, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

Here is a link to a playlist of his that talks about the basics about mods and how to use them. I hope it helps

Negatives????

what negatives? :D

some mods are broken and/or will break your game if you dont read the description AND the comments. So read both so you aren't caught off guard. Or keep save games like it was said above.
