Custom models and textures not working. Blurgh. Help.

Oh great. So now I hear the forum is dead?

And I'm not even half done learning how to mod FO3!

Ok guys... if you're there...

I've made a MK17 (aka: SCAR-H) with a 3D modeling freeware called Blender. I don't know if there's anyone left here on GECK forum or how much you know about modeling/texturing but hopefully you can help me.

Because I've finished the model of the MK17, I'm still learning how to texture it... it's kind of a nightmare. But I wanted to test the model in FO3 just to see it, so I finally figured out how to make a basic texture, finally got that working in NifSkope, created a new weapon form in GECK, linked the .nif I made and placed it in the game.

It was actually a huge breakthrough for me as I got stuck on the texturing and kind of lost interest for a few months. It's such a pain because the model is so good (if you ask me) but the texturing is so difficult (if you ask me) it's kind of made a waste of the model for me haha.

But I'm trying to force it to work now and I've made enough progress to actually get a test version of my model into the actual game!

Anyway, my problem is that although the texture renders perfectly in NifSkope, and even in Bethesda's own GECK, it all goes to hell in a hand basket in game!

I've tried this before with other textures I never quite got to work in NifSKope, and the result was that the weapon isn't visible in game at all and you can't touch it, sometimes it displays the big red exclamation mark error symbol in game, etc. etc.

But now I've got a working, if kind of bad, texture, on a working model in the game and it all actually works more or less (less) in that the weapon is visible you can pick it up, equip it, use it, drop it, manipulate it in the environment, etc., etc.

The only problem is that the game doesn't render the texture I put on it. It's actually really weird and I can not think of anything that could logically cause it, but what it's doing is actually putting a different, often random, texture on the gun from some other item. At times it seems like it's almost mirroring other textures around it.

I originally loaded it in the player house in Megaton. And it often renders a texture of random metal junk like what the shacks are made of.

Other times, like when traveling in the wilderness it will render the texture of tree trunks and stumps.

The texture often changes.

I've noticed in 1st person mode, when you look at the ground it usually turns a blank black non-texture texture.

It often changes (randomly?) depending on what you're looking at.

If you drop it and look at it the texture changes more, it changes if your crosshair is on it or just offset from it.

But most of the time (especially in 3rd person) it seems like it's attempting to render it's intended texture but spectacularly failing to. The body of the gun is supposed to be rendered a desert camouflage pattern that I simply took a picture of, with some parts a black plastic texture, some others a dark scratched metal texture. What you get in the game is mostly a featureless very light tan for the most part, with large blotches of featureless black.

What in the world is going on???
