Fallout 3 - Graphics adapter and Resolution.

What's the question?

Okay, I was looking through the option setting on the Fallout 3 launcher (I have also noticed this on some other games too) and upon clicking on the drop down menu label named 'Resolution' I noticed that there was obviously regular resolutions such as 1680x1050, but however, I also noticed some other resolutions. For example, 1600x1000 [Letterbox]. I was curious to what it meant by the term "[Letterbox]".

Could someone please explain to me what resolutions that end with "[Letterbox]" mean please?

[I have attached a photograph of what I am seeing just in case you didn't understand what I was talking about. I tend to explain things in a stupid way.

Thank you.

There are two wide screen resolutions. 16:9 and 16:10. One is more suited for movies, one is more suited for games (although games can be both).

What the Letterbox setting does is preserve the aspect ratio (of whatever you choose) and uses black bars to fill in the blank spaces (top/bottom or sides) rather than stretching the image vertically or horizontally to fill the screen.
