My Orc doesn't use fast travel and has so far avoided any devastating vampire attacks in towns and cities, he has however been attacked quite a lot on the road by them. He has had enough of this vile vampire vermin and decided to join the Dawnguard to wipe them out. I believe Durak the Orc becomes available during this questline as a follower and I'm thinking of using him as he has no level cap like a lot of the followers, is this a good plan?

That actually makes a lot of sense. I played my Orc long before we had DG. Course now I use a mod to stop the stupid attacks.

My Orc, Fleur, went for "the best defense is a good offense" and made the most of her two-handed initial bonus. I am using a mod that provides leather smithing the same bonus as Steel, so that she can keep her minimal collection of leather straps in line with her needs, and so she's levelling light armour instead of heavy. (She likes to show off her pectorals.)

Her follower provides the magical side of the team offence, and she really only uses the Healing spell to any extent. She's had a few, such as Relyna Maryon the apprentice from the College, Areana Ienith from Azura's shine, and of course Serana from DG.

Two-handed weapons have the advantage of longer reach than one-hended, so with care you can hit enemies that can't hit you, by moving away to the right distance. She's getting good at that.

I used to find Orcs boring until I saw the Dothraki in Game of Thrones.

As a result I made a barbarian horde type Orc character with light armor & dual one-handed.

Orcs aren't really honor bound, from what I see they don't pity the weak, they see weakness as something that should be eliminated....Malacath praises you for killing the weak chief.

The beast blood is a grey area as it makes you strong yet the strength comes at a price and I don't think Malacath would take kindly in you seeking Hircines favor but if it's something involving making you stronger then he may forgive you, ditto for crushing the weak priest with Molags Mace.
