In which one points out where other games have done Elderscrolls stuff better.
Horses: Red Dead Redemption. Beautifully animated: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OifvajLsn5I Different breeds that feel meaningful. Being able to lose your horse in a way that's tragic and cool without being frustrating. Feeling like you really have to earn on by catching it yourself, whistling and just having your horse come to you.
Weather: Assassin's Creed Black Flag: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aN7-oW2pE7o Sure there's a lot of attention paid to the weather in TES. But being in the middle of a thunderstorm in Black Flag really outclasses anything done in Skyrim or before. The sound and visuals and flashing lightning and crashing thunder really lend itself to feeling like you're in the middle of a torrential downpour more than any TES has managed. And out on the ocean storms actually have gameplay affects, feeling like you're fighting against them is even more fun than just having them as window dressing is when done right.
Random village NPC's: Fable, obviously. Of course a heck of a lot of attention is paid to this portion. But having NPC's that don't just go about their business, but can be married and acknowledge it more, can react to your reputation and even your clothing, that you can give gifts and drag off into the woods (and murder if wanted, cough) is a heck of a lot more than any TES game has ever done.
Combat: Kingdom's of Amalur, Reckoning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HS99zdAkYZg Proving and open world RPG can have combat that's fun in and of itself, it might have been deficient in any number of area but absolutely floors just about every other rpg with action based combat ever made in being just plain fun. If it weren't for being able to break the combat in later levels it would be nigh comparable to the better dedicated third person combat games, and with crafting and loot and a hundred hours of quests and all the other stuff that goes along with an open world rpg.
I'm sure there are other examples out there. Since devs do it anyway, why not show YOUR favorite things from other games that are the same in vein?
