SkyRE alternatives for sneaky PCs ?

Post » Fri Dec 06, 2013 2:42 pm

Hi all,

I can't find a way to make my game stable if I use "STEP" and mods which add/alter NPCs and creatures, the way they spawn and behave and then add SkyRE... everyone says it's because of the interferences between the massive scripting introduced by those mods, but no-one could help me to spot what was interfering with what...

At the moment I can play smoothly with STEP 2.2.7, Immersive Armors+Weapons+Creatures and SkyTEST... but the way the PC levels, the the worth of vanilla perks and powers and the balance between the stats of items/npcs/creatures are a real mess...

As I'm used to play sneaky characters as hunters, rangers, thieves and assassins (PCs who rely on a light armors, bows, a couple of daggers and no shields nor magic at all), what mods could I use to replace SkyRE ?

SkyRE makes some changes I really don't want to miss, as the overhauling of archery (localized damage would be a dream, for a good archer), forging, sneaking and lockpicking and the massive game's rebalance...

What are the alternatives I should test ?

You could try ACE or Deadly Combat.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10037/? (ACE) I did use this mod for a Time. You can also make adjustments and choose which plugins you want.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5485/?# (Deadly Combat) I have not tried this mod so I can not comment on it.

For perks you could try Syynerx Perks Overhaul.

Did you use the reproccers? I am not sure if by stable you mean "less crashy" or if you mean "less difficult" but skyre without the reproccer is actually quite a mess if you have other mods and such.

yes, I've used the reproccer and a couple of patch-mods for it.... as I said in a couple of other posts (no one could help me) It wasn't possible to play at all, because every time the first dragon was hit, the game crashed and the logs reported an error about the application of blood decals.

On the funny side, I've installed the same mods, in the same order, with the same configs a dozen of times in the past two years (I don't know why, but I can't enjoy playing games no more, so I waste some time messing with mods) and I had that problem only 3 times... only gods know why.

SkyRE is really all I want to play... BUT... using it along with with the vanilla game (especially because of the creatures, spawnings, enemy AI, lockpicking, sneaking and archery) is way TOO boring, and I've always abandoned playing at around level 20 because everything was too easy and repetitive... BUT using it along with mods which add creatures, npcs, spawning points, etc, seems impossible, because of all that scripts conflicting with each other...

P.S. sorry for my english, I'm from italy

I'm reading the documentation of ACE, and It seems to modify archery and combat in a way I could enjoy... I'm not so sure about sneaking, lock-picking and pickpocketing... not to mention forging...

Deadly Combat isn't right for me... It's really a good mod, but I should adopt melee combat, throwing away my beloved bows... and it's not going to happen... EVER

I would recommend those two mods in addition to SkyRe

They complement each other very well, SkyRe's great perk overhaul and ImpSneakDet. the more realistic detection

IMHO http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/28418 provides the best game-play and perks for a sneak based character, as I am mostly inclined to make sneaky characters, and have searched for all the mod out there to find the best that fits my ideals.

Here are some other mods to enhance a sneaky character experience:

  • http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/14157: Only accomplished thieves allowed in.
  • http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16531 : Less annoying followers for sneaky characters.
  • http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11609 : No more moron followers who constantly set off those traps.
  • http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/31799 : You can activate traps to make noise and distract those pesky bandit guards.
  • http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/2653 : OK, so traps should be hard to detect, I only make the trip wires semi transparent.
  • http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/6594: Stealth skill rebalanced makes it harder to pick locks, but those graduations help a bit.

Hope you enjoy your new experience.

The first one is included in the STEP Guide.... However, the problem is I can't get SkyRE working...

Almost all of them are included in the STEP Guide, except for http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16531... I'll check it out.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29979 Lock Overhaul is included and helpful too
