Struggling to install a certain mod

Post » Sun Apr 25, 2010 8:57 am

Hi, guys. I've been trying to install this < http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6188 > mod, but it will not work for me and I cannot understand the installation process. Can anyone please explain to me what to do with this??? It says in the readme to click the BSA reg application and click "update" but the only thing mine says when i click it is that everything is properly registered. I would really love to play this mod but as of now all I'm getting are ugly yellow boxes for my meshes and textures.

This usually means the files are not installed properly. The BSA reg as far as I am aware only updates the load order of master files by modifying your .ini file. Admittedly though, I don't have much knowledge about this utility. I would download and check for you, but I'd need to clean out my hard drive first. Make sure that the files in this mod are going in their proper folders. Sometimes computer misplace the files or don't copy them all over to the respective folders they go in.

In the case of bad packing, some of the textures and meshes etc aren't put in a neat folder called "meshes" or "textures" and you have to hunt the files down. I would guess though that you just didn't put them in the right spot as this is a mod that has had some recent updates as of 09'.

It's prolly a dumb question, but you do have the better bodies mod right?

You should unpack your mod in a temporary folder.

If there are folders respectively named "Meshes" and "Textures" you should find where ever you install morrowind on your computer.

Open up the morrowind folder, and look for a folder called "data files" and open that.

Now drop the two folders from the mod you downloaded (meshes and textures) into here.

It will prolly ask if you want to override some files. Say yes.

And of course, don't forget your ESP and BSA files.. that goes in the data files folder too. I know you prolly already have them there, but just making sure. lol

And that should fix your problem. I can't say for certain cuz I can't look at the mod atm, but I hope it helps. :)

Edit:

Just realized I had typed ESP instead of ESP and BSA.. this has now been fixed. Thanks for covering for me guys.

Both files (Scissors & Thimbles.bsa and Scissors & Thimbles.esp) are in the Data Files folder, right? If so and BSA Reg isn't updating, that means you are going to need to update the INI file yourself. Simply find the [Archives] part in the INI and add Scissors & Thimbles.bsa at the bottom of the list. This should fix the problem. Not sure why BSA Reg isn't updating the INI, though. Maybe someone else could explain?

I am using windows xp and have a standard installation of Morrowind and just downloaded and installed the mod and given it a quick playtest and not found any problems.
Place the Scissors & Thimbles.bsa the Scissors & Thimbles.esp and the BSAReg.exe in your Morrownd/Data Files folder then click on the BSAReg.exe and then update. You should then get a message saying your Morrwind.ini file has been updated.Activate Scissors and Thimbles.esp in the Morrowind launcher and that is it.

Just to echo wht Feneroe has already said , it sounds like the Scissors & Thimbles.bsa is not in the Morrowind/data files folder or it hasn't registered correctly.

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately.................I've done correctly what you've all suggested, but I am still having the same problem - no textures, meshes are showing up ingame.

I placed the S & T.esp and .bsa in the data files folder along with the BSAReg.exe. Clicking on the BSAReg gave me no "update" option, so I did it myself in the ini by Feneroe's instructions. I checked the .esp in the data files at launch, but its still not working. I am also having this problem with the Flora Glow mod - it contains a BSAReg.exe and, even though i believe i installed it correctly, all of my mushrooms are big yellow boxes. To clarify I have installed dozens of other mods and have never had a problem as such.
I just don't understand; where are the meshes and textures anyway? I only have .esp, .bsa and BSAReg. I don't even know where the stuff I'm missing IS in this mod.

Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?

I think it could be that you have too many .bsa files in your data files folder, as i think i read somewhere that Morrowind can only recognise a few and ignores the rest.

The big yellow boxes you are seeing is the default mesh the game uses when it cannot find the correct meshes referenced in the relevant esp/esm file.

To fix this problem i suggest you use a utility such as http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Utilities.Detail&id=32 to unpack the Scissors & Thimbles.bsa so you have the icons, meshes and textures folders loose , then you can put them in their respective folders in your data files folder as you would with any other mod. Do the same with the Flora Glow .bsa and that should work properly as well.

Hi FleetingShadow

I've always had this problem and I've always had to install the BSA files manually.

I'm virtually computer-illiterate and it's a long time since I've installed a mod with a BSA file, so my advice is: consult the read- mes of mods like Tamriel Rebuilt or Children of Morrowind where the operation is explained on a step-by-step basis.

If it's been clear enough for me, it should easily be even clearer for you.

Good luck

Patrice.
