RaceClass picking

Post » Mon Dec 09, 2013 8:45 pm

I had some trouble with profiles and moving saves so I'm going to start a new character.

I was a Imperial with heavy armor and one handed weapons, I'm looking to switch it up but not to much. I like having strong defense with decent hp. I was thinking maybe Heavy armor, destruction magic and one handed sword, but I'm open to suggestions. Any help is welcomed! Thank you!

Perhaps a basic battlemage?

  • Heavy Armor
  • One Handed (versatile with magic)
  • Block (lots of very useful perks)
  • Destruction (as you said)
  • Restoration (always useful for a warrior based build)

You can add in Smithing and/or Enchanting if you want.

Also, WTF is up with that last part?

All armour can reach the cap so it's best to pick armour that you think looks best or suits your characters build.
Try dual casting magic and also use a 2H weapon.

For mage / warrior combo I much prefer light armor with one-handed, block and then magic. Light armor seems to suit the role so much better than a cumbersome heavy armor.

My battlemages (as opposed to spellsword or crusader build) only use bound weapons (conjuration) for melee. I take the name battle"mage" quite literally.

Welcome to the forums.

If you are looking to play around with magic and are not looking for a big change from Imperials, then you may wish to consider Bretons.

They have magic resistance which can get maxed out if you use what is possible in the game. The "Spellsword" class from Oblivion used Heavy Armor, destruction and one handed as primary skills. Hit points (health) is only a matter of you choosing that option when doing the level gains. Perks can bring the magicka cost of spells down (some) but you will want to eventually invest in magicka if you want your character to be able to use magic in a prolonged fight. Also use smithing skill so your character can upgrade armor and weapon (types) more quickly. It can give your character an edge in combat. When using heavy armor, use the perks.

Enjoy your game.

It sounds like you already have your answer. If you want high defense, heavy armor is the way to go. The only thing I would add to your list is Restoration- it gives you an edge on the defensive end.
