PokeDov

Lore-friendly (-ish) backstory:

In a nutshell, I'm porting the old gameboy Pokemon game into Skyrim. There will be a new minigame which will emulate the battles as close to the original as I can get it.

Verteiron is helping me with the move (shout) animation sequences and Amigo is helping me with the UI.

I am nearly finished drafting out the mechanics. I have kept things as close to the original as possible, all the calculations and formulas have been recreated in Papyrus, so it should (in theory) play out the same as the game we all know and love.

There is a looooong way to go with all this, but I thought I'd start this thread early to see what you guys think and to get ideas.

Once I'm finished with writing out the mechanics scripts, I'll be putting together a bare-bones prototype esp to test, which I'll also release to gather feedback on performance from a range of PC setups.

I'll be posting updates in this thread whenever there's something worth sharing, so watch this space!

Gotta catch 'em all!

(oh come on, you knew somebody would say it :P )

Looks interesting. Is that the existing Windhelm Arena meshes fixed up? It's huge, have you tested it in game?

Might want to fix the video links, you're missing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAzR3w5sksI and shout2 is actually just the more-complete version of shout1 :)

Lol, this is what I get for making a new thread on my phone while at work, getting constantly disturbed by punters putting on bets! Links fixed (again) :P

Haha! Well, technically, the emphasis in this one will be training up your dragon and getting the better shouts in order to beat all the gyms + elite 4. The mechanics will only be supporting one player-owned dragon at a time (otherwise my head will explode trying to track more lol), if you catch a new one, your old one will be set free

So the tag line will be more like "Gotta beat 'em all" (there's no trading cards here to push onto a child market, so no need for a brainwashing tag line lol)

Nope, it's just a bunch of vanilla static pieces Frankenstein-ed together into something that resembles a stadium. No I haven't tested it in-game yet and you are right, it is pretty huge. I might end up having to scale it down a bit

Haha! Well I'm confused...Must've been another B1gBadDaddy I've been bugging over the last month whenever a new idea popped into my head :P

:o Why not trading/collectible cards? Especially if you can only own one at a time, you'll want a reminder of any you may have previously owned. Oh! For that matter, have you thought of rewards? A little dragon statue trophy that one can display in their house would be awesome. (*insert jedi mind tricks here*)

Easy enough resources to make.

Im a Toydarian, your Jedi tricks won't work on me! Besides, I like your ideas anyway

Oooohhh, now there's an idea! It would be another nod to the Pokemon influence. How about this:

A company piggy-backing off of the success of the Dova League™ has released a set of Top-Trump style trading cards which feature the dragons of the Gym Masters, past Gym Champions, Famous Trainers and Grand Champions. You can either buy them from the various general stores (but you dont know which one you get until you unwrap it, some cards being rarer then others) or you can trade with the local kids.

This'll be quite fun to make

Yep i've already started the journey down that particular line of thought. Here's what i've got so far:

1. In each of the different arenas, there is a "Hall of Victory" which houses a statue of every trainer that has defeated the local champion. I'll incorporate the mechanics from my Player Statue mod to make a statue of the player character whenever they win against a gym leader.

2. A while a go, a comment from Gopher in one of his Mod Sanctuaries lodged itself I my brain. He was reviewing Race Menu and he said it would be cool if a mod used the tattoo layering mechanism in a trial or something. Well I've taken this idea an ran with it. Instead of a badge, you earn a tattoo after each gym leader and the elite four, eventually growing into a full sleeve. This will be accomplished using the NetImmerse Override plugin (the core mechanics behind the Race Menu mod).

https://www.dropbox.com/s/bumxdm8qx0mmi8w/PKDV_Tattoos.jpg is a pic of my first-draft of the tattoos. The circular one on the forearm is basically your Dragon Trainer License. Everybody gets one when they register as a trainer, allowing trainers the ability to know at a glance who they can challenge to a duel. Then on the bicep is "The Five Knots", each one representing a successful battle against the Master of each of the five Arenas (Gyms) spread throughout the land. Finally, the big one on the shoulder is earned when you defeat the three Elite Champions in consecutive battles, gaining the Grand Champion title.

But i still like your idea of a trophy of sorts for the player to take home and put on the mantlepiece. Like you said it shouldnt be too hard to make.
