Help a new PC player choose mods?

Post » Fri Dec 13, 2013 12:51 am

Hello! :D I played Skyrim on the 360 for a while, but just bought Skyrim for PC so I could mod it etc. I'm trying to figure out which mods to add, and I have a list of ones I'd like. Was hoping you guys would have other ideas of mods I may like or be able to tell me if any of the current ones I'm planning on getting are incompatible.

you're being all hodge podge son,

you gotta break it down to categories,

http://www.skyrimgems.com/

what do you want out of combat? What do you want out of crafting? Out of the UI? the realism aspect? cooking? Weather? Followers? etc..

to do that you can use the above link, you can also go to skyrim nexus and click on files > Categories and change the options from most endorsed, to most viewed, etc. to get a feel of what's hot and what's not.

I would be very careful of mods that haven't been updated in 2013, there are alot of mods that haven't been looked at since 2012. avoid those.

Look into utilities that will help you keep your game stable, which is the most important part like

BoSS, TES5Edit, Wyre Bash, Nexus Mod Manager, SkyUI (particularly the Mod Config Menu that comes with it). SKSE (Skyrim Script Extender), SUM for the SkyProc patchers, and also make sure you pick up the UnOfficial Skyrim Patches for the Main game and all of the DLC's.

Finally, you just have to read. You have to read the Descriptions, the Posts, and the ReadMe files to make sure you install it correctly (although NMM takes care of most of this), and to make sure everything is compatible. if its not compatible then spare the headache of trying to make it compatible. and that alone will narrow down what you can use in any given category. The rest is up to you to find.

P.S. There are a thousand threads just like this on here, and many people have given some really great ideas for mods. There's about 10 or so that were made in the last few days, you can just scroll down this forum and find some. Most of the really good mods are covered...usually

What i meant, that might not have been easily relayed, is

when you make a thread, make it specific. Like what about combat mod X vs combat mod Y?

which texture sets can i run on my specs (that you list)?

there are thousands of mods that are really awesome. everything with about 1000 endorsemants are probably something you need to look at.

i make categories in my bookmarks and just go through the nexus. Once im done, i'll be heading over to the Steam Workshop to pick up a few mods that are exclusive over there. like ThirteenOranges stuff

edit:

I would check out OBIS in place of Immersive patrols. Less conflicts overall.

Pretty much any texture mod is harmless unless your comp cannot run it.

Same with the Sound. If you install a texture or sound mod but then find another one you like better, you can just overwrite the first one without unistaling it. Uninstalling should not really ever be done unless you're willing to start a new game.

The mods you have to really examine are the Overhauls and the mods that are heavily scripted like the combat and gameplay mods.

I'd suggest just going on youtube, and watching the "Top 5 skyrim mods of the week" from gamespot. Super fun to watch, and youll get to see massive amounts of the best mods.
