My post should be up soon, just checking for grammar and spelling mistakes. Also as a question to ThoseTolerableNoobs & WD40 (or more specifically Anin & Rammel) is it ok that Arannir took charge of the village scouting party?

Oh crap, I didn't notice that. I'm on my phone right now and will edit when I get home.

I read your post where there was someone in the doorway, and I was thinking you wanted that to be me, but I was late.

Super sorry. I just felt bad and wanted to get a post out as soon as possible.

I'd use that post for character sheets. That way, everything's easier. :)

Now, for my thoughts on your GMing, considering the discussion in the last thread. I think that a little more leniency would be nice, as this is for fun and several RPers are new. However, I also think that we shouldn't be so hard on TTN, because a rule I like to hold on criticism is to not do it unless you know for a fact you could do it better, and I know that TTN is doing far better than I ever could.

Can I ask if you have GM'd before, though? Or at least how long you have been a GM? Because if you haven't had the chance to do much of this, then I don't blame your stringency. I think that GMing has a much steeper learning curve than RPing, a learning curve that could take years to surmount. Being open to constructive criticism is a step in the right direction. And my thoughts on the post length is that it's no big deal if the poster has tried their hardest to make it longer. The only rule that should be made is to post when you have time to, while the longer posts should be a guideline.

That's my thoughts, though. And I'm a far worse GM.

No harm done (well, maybe to a certain first-time poster whose character you senselessly murdered, but ah well!)

This is my first swing of the bat (a baseball terminology - but I'm BRITISH!) I'm afraid. I know I can be a little tough, it's just the short posts were really annoying WD40 and I, and it can be pretty irritating if someone is basically contradicting you and patting people on the back for making them. I really want people to enjoy this - but they aren't if they feel the need to post quickly in the middle of class or a library, because I know I'd want (well, be guilted into) listening in class, and be too OCD to consider attempting using the flawed spell checkers of a mobile ( pronounced mow-bye-ul Americans! that's what we call "Cells" by the way, just in case there's confusion in the future). I do feel the need to stick to longer posts, but I'll try and...ease people into it.

Thanks for taking the time to go through it with me, it only helps you grow and all that hippy mambo jumbo.

I'd ask WD40 but...someone has to, I suppose?

EDIT: It's just occurred to me that with the loss of Mithrandir, our numbers are skewed, currently we have a few parties forming:

New Pact Hideout - Eraptor145 and Lexicon

New Pact Village Scouts - Starvdarmy's Character, Sir_Ravd's character

New Pact Thalmor Scouts - WD40

New Pact Misc - TTN, Souperintendent, Isewyn

The Thalmor are fairly scattered, but that's alright. Basically, if Firelight's about, could she have her character team up with WD40? That way we have even numbers with everyone talking to somebody. Thanks!

Can that not be ret-conned? The person in my post and the person you're talking about were not meant to be the same person. It's just a coincidence.

I can edit my post now.

If you think that’s best, I’d be happy to have Athrahil tag along with Anin. Word of warning however: I won’t be getting a post-up today as I’m going out to celebrate the end of term with a bunch of friends before they leave for home. I’ll do my best to have something up tomorrow however.

Oh and here’s my updated CS for Athrahil if you still want it. Truth be told the only difference between this version and the one currently in the IC thread is a deleted sentence in the personality section.

Spoiler

Name: Athrahil

Gender: Female

Race: Bosmer

Age: 38

Height: 5’9”

Faction: The New Pact

Rank: Scout and Healer

Appearance: At first glance she appears to be a pretty little thing; with her large golden eyes, high cheekbones, soft-pink lips, and delicate scooped noise, she seems almost better suited for a life of luxury instead of one in the wilds. On closer inspection however, her teeth are disquietingly sharp, her keen eyes too much like a wolf’s, and her movements somehow predatory in their deliberateness. She keeps her lean and light-skinned frame painted in red ocher, completely covering her hands, arms, feet, legs and neck. Her rich-brown hair hangs a mere inch above her shoulders in a cascade of waves, adorned with a scattering of assorted feathers tied into it.

Equipment: Blowpipe, poisoned blow darts, steel khukuri, hide shield, medic’s kit (contains gauze, needles, thread, truncates, etc.), a couple poultices, several strange tonics, a waterskin, animal fat, flint, and a mixture of red ocher in a sturdy jar.

(Apparel) Mended fur cuirass complete with shawl, leather greaves that end just below the knees, a belt with several wolf and foxtails hanging off the back, leather bracers, and huntsman’s moccasins with a small fringe of feathers sewn around the ankles.

When not in her armour --which is rare-- she usually runs about in a tattered woad robe.

Personality: Athrahil’s best described as spirited and a touch eccentric. Free with her affections and opinions, she’s known to be teasing and audacious with friends or strangers alike and is always ready for a good laugh, especially if it involves irony. Athrahil also adores nature and is something of a follower of Y’ffre; though she doesn't adhere strictly to his teachings, they do usually influence her ideas and actions to some degree.

Background: Born just outside Elden Root to environmentally minded Bosmeri parents (aren't they all?), Athrahil was brought up to live in harmony with the land, hunting and taking only what she needed. As a result, she has quite the knowledge of local flora and fauna, and is more than capable of hiding or moving stealthily amid forest. At the age of 24 she decided to become a guide to the wilds of Valenwood, sharing her love and knowledge of nature --she also saw it as a way to protect the uninitiated from the dangers of the forest while protecting the forests from their ignorance.

Around age 36 the Thalmor took an interest in Athrahil’s work as a guide and began to question her about it. This shortly escalated to accusations of treason, resulting in Athrahil’s detainment for several weeks and a full search and seizer of her property. Of course, at this time she was completely innocent --as statements from locals proved-- and was pardoned with her belongs returned to her, but Athrahil’s stay in prison had already done its damage.

Between the abuse and the thinly veiled threats she endured at the hands of the Thalmor, she realised she would've been tortured or put to death had no evidence been found to prove her innocent or guilty. It was at this revelation that she began to truly appreciate the state of fear many already felt living under Dominion rule, unable to ignore it any longer. The truth, as she was convinced, was that the Thalmor were out of control. Someone had to act.

In a desperate attempt to protect her family and friends, Athrahil cut off all ties with them in the most unpleasant of terms, praying the bad blood would distance them from her. She then waited a few months before slipping away to join the New Pact, a resistance group she’d heard whispers about.

Motives: She simply seeks freedom. To do what she wants with whom she wants without fear of making herself or her loved ones a target for harm. Since she’s unwilling to leave Valenwood to lead such a life, there was just one other option left...

You can do that if you so choose. Only thing is, like I said before, that I do want to get some things done on the Thalmor scouting side of things before you bring people back from the village. Other than that you're good to go.

CS accepted, of course.

Also as for not getting a post up tonight it's probably for the better. I'm working on my post now and it'll give you something to work off of for yours.

Edit: Just wondering, what were the numbers for the Thalmor that attacked Bal Fall? I just want to kind of throw that in my post for additional detail for when they scout out the Thalmor camp.

Edit #2: Sorry for the double post, I posted my first one at the same time as Firelight

Edit #3: I accept your CS, Lexicon, just wait for another GM to do so and their good to go (didn't want to put up another post due to my double-postage)

I'm still trying to figure out why people feel the need to post as soon as possible. I honestly did not think this was a fast-paced RP. I mean, the actual battle scene didn't have quick posts, which I expect would be common in such a scene.

Frankly, your first attempt is far better than my first attempt. XD But yeah, it's all a learning experience for everyone. I like RPing because it's good writing practice, and I feel I've learned many writing techniques since I began. This RP I'm experimenting with one aspect that I've always been terrible at and I have to improve: planning ahead. I also wanted to try making deeper characters, so it resulted in, well, massive confusion for you. Sorry about that. Just as long as you're open to constructive criticism and are willing to take advice from other people, then you can't be a bad GM (unless you're me. XD). :)

So, for those who are still learning the finer points of RPing, please don't feel obligated to post as soon as possible. Just post when you can, nothing's going to move along without you (unless you can't post for a while. Then you should notify your neighbourhood GMs that you can't post for a while, and even then you could still give an RP explanation for your character's inactivity when or if you come back). Instead of trying to post quickly, think about what you will post so that you'll have at least an idea of what to write about, what to describe. That way, when you can post, your post should be good. If you can't think of anything to write, think about the scene, and more importantly, what the character feels. Is the jungle thicket wet with the rain? Is the rain cold, or does it create a lukewarm fog? What does your character think about it? Does it remind them of a past experience? It may seem a bit daunting at first, but the learning curve really isn't as steep as it seems. And, on a side note, I forbid anyone from using "I write on a mobile" (yes, mo-bye-il) as an excuse fot writing short posts.

Anyway, I'm going to ask our GMs if my new character sheet is accepted. Should be in the old thread.

Okay, got my post up. To Firelight (or anyone else who ends up accompanying Anin on the scouting trip before I get my next post up), just pick out one of the jobs Anin laid out and bring them up to speed on the whole situation, but don't put them in the camp yet. Tomorrow or the next day I'll put up my post of them entering the camp and we can go from there.

Edited my post. Really sorry about that.

Hey Tolerable, does Rammel know of Vesuvius' true mission or not? I can't remember when/if this was said, but I think it was determined that Vesuvius was under the guise of being a defect like Rammel, instead acting like a guard for him. So he's a part of the New Pact, but more or less a spy. If Rammel does know about this, that's fine, but I just want to know all the details so I don't make any errors. And if that explanation for Dominic's role isn't good, than I can manufacture another one if needed.

No, Rammel doesn't know about Vesuvius, and it might be interesting to keep it that way.

@WD40 - Noce post, but I'd just like to point out that the 4 people you gave orders to in your posts have gone their separate ways. In fact, for some reason, Anin hasn't got anyone with him right now. Are you just using generic -soldiers for the sake of time? Just checking, in case anyone gets confused.
