What graphic mods can this rig handle? And what manager should I use for the mods? I really don't mind if it's fantasy like or realistic..... As long as it looks nice. And also does anyone have combat system mods and running and walking animation changer mods?

I don't follow laptops so can't help you there. As to mod managers, Wrye Bash is the best of the lot. Has a steeper initial learning curve than OBMM, which frightens some folk away, but honestly once you learn the ropes its no more difficult than other managers. In fact it's actually easier since it does so much more for you. You'll want to combine it with BOSS to handle your load order.

For people, check out the Oblivion Character Overhaul thread on this page. For everything else, check out the Elder Scrolls Texture Guide at: http://testg.wikidot.com/oblivion:oblivion

I've got the y400 and am running QTP3 Redimized without issue. After adding several new province mods, open better cities, all the UL mods, and about 150 other mods, as well as high res replacers for everything QTP3 does not replace, I finally turned off distant trees to improve FPS because things were starting to slow down. With distant trees off and streamlines fog feature enabled, I get 20-30 FPS in most places and only go below that in really active places like the waterfront. I can usually play for a couple hours before a crash and if I crash sooner than that, it is because of some other conflict, not an out of memory error.

Your y410 has a slightly improved processes and should be able to handle quite a bit as long as you don't go too crazy. Or if you do go crazy like I did, the sacrifice is distant land. Distant land is a huge FPS svck.

If you are going for high res replacers, I would recommend considering the 4GB patch and the cell buffer purging feature of Streamline. I am also running OSR.

Edit: I would second the recommendation of Wrye Bash and BOSS. I also use TEs4edit for cleaning.

I should also point out that the limitations you will encounter with Oblivion are going to be more software related than hardware related. Oblivion was not designed to run all the stuff I've got running and I don't think there is a desktop made that would run all that at 60 FPS everywhere without getting out of memory errors.

Maybe someday if there is an Open OB project like Open MW to rebuild the engine from scratch then we could get the Oblivion experience we all dream of, but until then, you will find that most people on good desktops don't get much more than 20-30 FPS if they are running a heavily modded game with high res replacers and distant land.

Oblivion's game engine won't use more than one core in your processor. Skyrim will, so you may get better performance with a modded Skyrim than Oblivion because its game engine is more modern.

Ok.... All I want is high res textures and distant detail.... Don't care for enb like mods. Is the 4gb patch really neccesary?

Only if you want your game to be able to use more than about 1.8 GB of ram. You can always add it later.

Use Wrye Bash to install your texture mods. Then you can back put easy if its too big a performance hit. There are many texture mods available. Some affect performance more than others.

You should look at the Oblivion texture wiki Dubious put together. It's very informative.
