What are your thoughts on a Dwemer build?

So the sneak archer assassin Breton character build I did based on the guy from the ESO trailer did not go as well as planned. I realized a couple hours in that it was pretty much the same exact thing as my current character. I really want to make something else involving magic, but magic alone on legendary is quite impossible. So I thought making a Dwarf (the Skyrim dwarves) would be fun.

I'm going to use a Dark Elf, for they resemble the Dwemer the most, and they're pretty good with magic. Here are the skills he will be using:

  • One handed
  • Block
  • Alchemy
  • Enchanting
  • Smithing
  • Destruction
  • Alteration

I'm not going to be using armor at all, maybe some bracers or gauntlets, but that's it. I'm going for a noble type Dwarf, the ones that wear fancy robes and hold a shield and maybe a staff. I'm strictly going for the use of Dwemer items only.

Apparel:

  • The obvious, I'm going for fancy looking robes (if not robes then whatever I find that looks nice)
  • A golden crown
  • Golden ring
  • Golden necklace
  • I don't know about bracers, I will have to see later. I don't want to go for Dwarven bracers because they're too bulky
  • Boots also don't know yet, I will have to see.

All of them will be enchanted with some sort of magic or blocking enhancement. I don't have a backstory yet, and I probably won't have one. Only thing I will be role-playing here is being a total d*** to everybody else, using only Dwarven items, and living in one of the Dwemer ruins, preferably Blackreach. BTW, does Blackreach, or any ruin for that matter, respawn mobs after a certain time?

Overall, what do you guys think about this build? Should I add anything to this character? Any tips on what I should do with magic in the beginning so that I can progress with it quickly? Thanks in advance :)

The Aetherial Crown is fitting.

Yes it is, I completely forgot about that XD. I think I will be going for the staff though, it fits a bit more. I also want to have as many enchantments on my apparel as possible, for magicka, because I can imagine the difficulty of destruction on legendary.

If you have Dragonborn then Solstheim has some fancy robes, namely the Temple Priest and Telvanni robes.

It's your game but personally I see the Dwemer as more mechanical then magical, blending both at times yet leaning more on the engineering side rather then the enchanting side....they mainly use steam power, not magical energy in their works.

As with any race there's all different types of people and judging by what I've seen, the Dwemer were both smart and strong as they've created things that other races still can't recreate but they couldn't have been a weak and frail race of pure thinkers, otherwise their armor wouldn't be so big and heavy nor would their beds be stone slabs. Also consider that 2 of their artifacts are a shield that blocks magic and a mighty warhammer that was allegedly thrown across Tamriel by the Dwemer chief (head of the Rourken Clan) who created it. I would think that magic usage would fall under the gods that they loathed, preferring their gods of "reason and logic" which is basically the science vs. religion thing of today.

Anyway that's my thoughts on a Dwemer build

So you won't be using their crossbows? I don't know if you're aware that you can eventually get schematics for a Dwarven crossbow if you work with the Dawnguard.

I know about the crossbow, I just never pictured Dwemer using them. Also, on the wiki, it said that they were very talented in magic and enchanting. I'm going for the magical side of things because I've never tried it before and I'd like to give it a shot :D

Also, I was thinking of bumping the difficulty level down a bit, I want to have a fun time with my magic, not a living hell. What difficulty would you guys recommend me?

Difficulty will depend on how much destruction you are using. If you want to use that primarily with 1 handed as a backup then you may not want to go above master. Are you playing DiD?

I don't think I will play DiD. I only play DiD with stealthy characters, but with an all out fighting Dwarf, I think I'll stick to a regular playthrough. I guess you could say it's primary? I mean, when I see an enemy far a way I will use it, but when they get close, I'll take out my shield and bash.

I want to decrease the difficulty, but only problem is after a while killing everyone becomes only a couple hits, and I don't want to change the difficulty half way through the game.

It seems as though Solstheim has better Dwemer ruins and items fitting for a Dwemer character. Like the Telvanni robes, they're perfect for the Dwemer look, and as you just showed me, I can have my own creations as a follower :D

The beauty of this game is you can play it your way but always take what's written on wiki with a grain of salt as much of it is inaccurate....especially since I don't remember seeing an enchanting table in any Dwarven ruin.

As for using destruction, I would definitely consider a lower difficulty unless you want your lighting to be like static shock to most enemies :P
