Need MAJOR help please! Serious issue

Post » Mon Dec 16, 2013 11:35 am

I'm having a really bad issue involving guards in EVERY hold attacking me, even though I have no bounty. I have tried everything and I do not know how to fix it. I do not have an older save that I can load to avoid this issue. (Unless someone knows a magic trick.) Please bear with me, I know this is kind of a lot to read but I am desperate.

PC gamer here. I started up a new character a while ago and have been running around enjoying myself, minding my own business. I started and completed the companion's questline and in doing so, unlocked Aela the Huntress as a follower. Yesterday, I went to forge the Gauldurson amulet and decided to ask her to come along with me. We are both werewolves, so naturally we used that power to our advantage. Somewhere during the fight, she was killed. At first, I was scared it was a glitch because I thought she was essential. Either way, I used the console command to resurrect her, assuming all was well. (She was in her werewolf form when she died, and when I resurrected her, she just got up and walked back to Whiterun like that.)

This is where the trouble began.

I fast-traveled back to Whiterun to sell some goods and whatever else. Immediately upon entering the city, the guards started attacking me. I freaked out and assumed it was a glitch, and reloaded the save, and traveled back to Whiterun. It just kept happening. I tried using some console commands to calm them down and set their aggro to 0, but nothing worked. Sheathed my weapon, etc. etc. but still nothing. They just kept on attacking. So finally, I decided to just kill them all. I did, and all seemed well until I visited Dragonsreach, where almost everyone in the court was attacking me spare Lydia. At this point, I checked my bounty and somehow it was 1000 for Whiterun. I had no idea how or why, seeing as I commit almost no crimes with this character and definitely hadn't done anything knowingly to stack up such a high bounty. So, I used a console command to set it to 0. The guard who was attacking me at that moment then sheathed his weapon and just stared at me, so I took a breath of relief, and walked further into the city.

Nope. More guards ran up and started to attack. At this point, I'm pretty frustrated and start looking up solutions online. Some people were saying to fast travel out of the hold and wait for 3 days and then return. So, I fast-travel to Windhelm.

The guards there attack me too.

Fast-travel to Morthal, guards there attack me too. Every other hold I traveled to, the same damn thing just kept happening. I had no bounty, obviously am not a vampire, and was not going to any of the towns in my werewolf form because I know that leads almost anyone to attack me on sight. Finally, I gave up and loaded the oldest save I had, back BEFORE Aela died, and all was well.... for a while.

It still didn't really occur to me that Aela was connected to the problem. I kept playing without any problems, and earlier today I went to her again and asked for her to come along with me to Karthspire. So we went, fought some forsworn, next thing I know, "your follower leaves your service" message pops up in the corner. I run around trying to look for Aela, and finally find her corpse again, in Werewolf form. I try resurrecting her and all she does is attack Esbern. So, I keep loading the save I made right before attempting to resurrect her, as I just stand over her corpse. I fast travel to Whiterun, and the exact same BS is happening. All the guards, even some of the citizens now, are attacking me without cause. I did check my bounty again, and it did say 1000 for Whiterun once again, but even setting that to 0 doesn't help, nor does it matter because every other hold's guards attack me on sight now too. They won't try to arrest me or take me to jail, they just keep attacking no matter what.

As I said before, I don't have any saves to go back to where this wasn't a problem. I feel really stupid about that, but I just want to get my game back to normal.

No... if you read all the way through, I said I'm a werewolf. However, I'm not entering any city in my werewolf form.

There are too many for me to list manually and apparently I can't post a link to a screenshot here. Either way, I deactivated any mods I suspected might have been contributing to the problem, to no avail of course..

Never, Ever do that!

when you disable a mod, its scripts are still running in your save file.. So Disabling a mod and continuing your save can harm your Save File.. and i mean really harm it!

as such, whenever you remove/deactivate a mod, start a new game. whenever you add/activate a mod, Start a new game..

adding and deactivating mods and continuing a save will harm your save files.

Alas, without your mod list and Load order, there is not we can do to assist you, other than the advice I just gave you.

Aela loses her essential flag once you complete the Companions' quest line - her dying is no glitch.

Just a guess, but it sounds like resurrecting her with the console while she's in werewolf form is making the game think you're in werewolf form even when you're not, and that's why everyone's attacking you. If you look at your Active Effects in the Magic menu, does it show Beast Form as being active? I hope you still have that save from before she died the first time.

This is why it's not a good idea to mess around with console commands unless absolutely necessary - they can and will utterly break your game if you're not careful. Instead of using the console to resurrect Aela, you should have just loaded a save prior to her being killed and replayed that part of the game.

WRT to your load order, if you used BOSS to sort your mods, you can open the BOSS log and copy-paste the contents to a post here. You can also copy-paste the plugins.txt file (located in your C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Skyrim folder) into a post here.

I never knew that Aela could transform into a werewolf outside of the Companions quest - is that from a mod, or something in the vanilla game? If it's a mod it's possible that it's the culprit, although I am just grasping at straws.
