Should mods be added after the helgen start?

It seems I was having alot of issues with Alternate Start, but adding mods after i finish the vanilla helgen, everything has seem to do well.

Is this been anyone else's experience? Should I avoid adding any mod before I finish the helgen questline? What about Alternate Start LAT?
