MGEMGSO 3.0 Framerate Issues

Post » Wed Dec 18, 2013 1:37 pm

Looking for some help increasing the framerate while running MGE3/MGSO3.0

Not sure what I can do to increase it. I'm at around 7 fps in towns. For what it's worth, I selected "Very Fast PC" in the intial setup, as I thought my system qualified as that.

I'm *terrible* with computers, so I appreciate layman's terms where possible. I don't want to go poking around and changing too much in the settings, as I'm not sure where to start and am trying to only minimally affect the look of the game.

My Specs...
GeForce GT 650M
Intel Core i7-3630Qm CPU @2.40GHz
8.00GB RAM
Windows 8

Change your MSGO settings to the next lower PC setting.
What happens?

Distant Land is likely what's killing your FPS.

Your graphics card is the limiting factor. That card does not qualify as very fast.

I have the GT 750 M card in my laptop, which is slightly better than your card. My other specs are simar to yours.

I selected the "fast" setting in MSGO, rather than "very fast". I also went into MGE XE and set distant land to 2 cells, to mimic the vanilla fog.

Pluto is correct that distant land is an FPS killer, so you might start by reducing the setting in MGE XE first and if that does not work, go into MGSO option and change it to "fast". However, if you tinker with the MGSO options, you may loose any customizations you installed after MGSO because they may be overwritten by MGSO. There are instructions in the latest MGSO thread on how to avoid this.

Reduce grass density! that is whats probably killing your FPS, your PC is not "very fast", Morrowind uses an old version of Gamebryo which isn't well optimized..

one problem I had about MGO, is that the textures size are ridiculous unnecessary large and unoptimized, Morrowind is an old engine and texture as size 512x512 is already good and quality enough. therefore there are ton of of textures end up with size 2048x2048. everytime I reinstall MGO, I have to use optimize tool to change the texture to 512, the graphic change ingame isn't noticeable really, and I gained great FPS from that.

also, reduce distance land

Oy...

Thank you all for your help.

I switched my settings to reflect "Fast" PC.

Then I went to "Regenerate Distant Land" and opted to "Not Use the Old Settings"

This is where I get confused...

Under "Distant Land Part 1": I reduced my Grass Density from 80 to 40.

Under "Distant Land Part 2": I reduced my Draw Distance from 20 to 2.

Went through the prompts, setting my res to 1600x900 (size of my screen)

When the automated process, took over, I received an "Installer Error: Unhandled Exception"...

Is this what it's referring to?

My framerate has increased to around 40, which is a huge improvement. However, I received a message about a "serious error".

Here it the log:

Spoiler
>> Distant Land init depth
>> Distant Land init shadow
>> Distant Land init water
-- Distant Land init dynamic water
>> Distant Land init world
>> Landscape Load
!! Distant land has not been generated. It is required for MGE XE to run.
-- HUD release

What I was referring to is the fact that if you have added other texture mods since installing MGSO, you will overwrite these when re-running the MGSO Options.exe.

Your warnings.txt indicates a different problem.

It sounds like the MGSO Options.exe ran into trouble trying to regenerate distant land. I would just go into MGE XE's GUI and regenerate distant land from there.
