Height, Weight, and Build DIfferences

Post » Mon Apr 26, 2010 7:42 am

Do you think a size system will be implemented in Skyrim? For example, Have Imperials range from 5'6-6'3, Nords 5'9-6'7, Orcs 5-10'-6'8, High Elves 5'11-6'8 etc... and shorter proportionally for women.

This would give some awesome variety to the NPC's and maybe a user adjustable height/size system?

Anyone else agree?

i absolutely agree about the scale feature, on oblivion for the PC i was a lich, with this cool robe and hood i got from these creatures called revenants on the mannimarco resurrection mod for the PC, i adjusted my scale to make my player look about three feet taller and two feet wider than a nord, my skeletal lich was looking down at everyone it makes you look very intimidating and scary, and i absolutely hope they add it in, i just hope people dont abuse it and make your player ridiculously titanic, that would be gay.

I would totally love height and fatness (Not sure I want strength actually) to show up on your character, maybe even as negative and positive traits (negative trait: you have a tendency to put on weight rather easily). It could affect climbing speed, persuation rolls, and ability to get through narrow openings. "No, sorry. You're too fat to get through here, you have to take the long route" :D

They had beards, is all anyone really needs to know.

Dwemer rock because they have beards.

nords come second to Beardness.

And Beardliness is next to godliness.

So, it's an:

If all Dwarves have beards, and all beards have Nords, do all Dwarves have Nords?

Your right. I think in games this day and age there has to be variety in the characters and NPC's. Varying height and build could provide your character with individual starting statistics such as strength and speed.

It would be easy to at least include a general size slider. Characters would still share the same perportions, but at least be able to be larger or smaller, while avoiding any clipping issues that might arise from trying to animate all the possible variations people would come up with if using a more complex system.

…But if they got that all figured out, cool. The more options the merrier.

This.

I do not expect or even particularly desire Bethesda to integrate independent height/weight variables for player characters because it would require a TON of additional modeling, animating, and optimizing. Those features are somewhat shallow so I hope they make it a relatively low priority. Obviously if they make it happen I won't be complaining, but it's not anywhere near the top of my wish list.

Additional variation within the population is always a good thing and so are additional customisation options.

that would be nice.

hehe just kidding

I don′t think that we are going to see differences in builds, just in the characters faces, unless of course the devs find a way to adjust armor/clothing with the characters bodies...

What if your attributes determine that?
So if you have a high speed, you get taller.
If your strength is higher, you become bulkier.
Agility determines how fat or muscular you are.
I'm not so sure what your other attributes will do, though.

Good point, I wish I read this before writing what I wrote above.
Because everything in it is cosmetic, I don't want them to spend all of their time on it.

I hope they make some changes to the height of some of the races in Skyrim. There is no reason in the world that Male Bosmers should be the shortest race. Also Female Nords, Female Orcs and Female High Elves shouldn't be as tall as their male counterparts they should be a couple inches taller then the Female Imperials.

That would be my dream with this new engine. Have the ability to change your body type outside of Modding.

I think that this is def very important. I mean, if you want to be the strong warrior type, then you should have the option of being much larger than others.

I agree if they can do it right then I would love to see it implemented in Skyrim as it would add a lot of Realism and more Roleplaying to a character because you can truly design the character.

I don't think it would be easy to have "build" as a dynamic feature, and I don't think I want my character changing size or shape as his attributes improve, but having a choice between 2 or 3 different basic builds (lean, fit, heavy) might be workable. That would give some distinction between the stereotypical muscular fighter, the lean beggar, and the overweight innkeeper, or allow for the "oddity" of a muscular bookseller. Height isn't a problem, because even Morrowind allowed you to scale a character up or down in overall size, and the clothing adapted dynamically. Between variable size and a few choices of weight, that should cover most of the bases without forcing 12 different versions of every piece of armor or clothing.

I agree that it shouldn't be affected by stats, that would be really bad. But 3 different body types is better than 1 imo

Or just have the main character and certain other important NPC's have different body types then say the rest of the regular NPC's.

I just think that with this new engine, its a great opportunity to introduce something like this in game, without requiring the construction set. I think its likely that we will see a size slider, at least to a certain degree, in Skyrim.

Why not just 5 or so body types to chose between? This way we'd have a much greater variation in NPC's. I'd personally like for my nord to be a lil chubby.

I think the general consensus is that past ES games have been lacking in character variance.
I mean, come on! I want a really tall beefy orc to go and slay monsters, and I want some small chubby bosmer to schmooze NPC's with!
Is that too much to ask?
