Game crashes after Bethesda Logo - which mod's doing it?

Post » Sun Dec 22, 2013 5:20 am

So I just reinstalled Skyrim after finding an intriguing list of mods to make the game more interesting. I installed quite a few new mods and booted the game up. Bethesda logo... back to desktop. I don't know which mod is doing it. Help please?

I have Dawnguard, Hearthfire, but not Dragonborn. Here's my mod list (also, lemme know if there's an easier way to get the list than with a screencap):

Crash at logo with mods is usually a missing master. I doubt anyone is going to go through your list and make a dependency tree You need to uncheck your mods and test to find out the culprit.

Or use Wrye Bash as plugins with missing masters are color coded in it, so easy to check.

As said, Wrye Bash displays red check boxes next plugins with missing masters. Uncheck those mods or get their masters.

edit:

Judging by looking at that NMM picture there are bunch mods but the most important ones are missing. Why are The Unofficial Patches not installed?

You can run Tes5Edit, and it will show you in the message tab which plugin is missing during loading the plugins.

If you have such questions you should post your load order and not the mod list from NMM. I still don't understand why people are using NMM at all. Wrye Bash is much, much better

I have the unnofficial patches through Steam Workshop, that's why they don't show on that tab of NMM.

As for Wrye Bash being better than NMM... didn't know. Haven't played Skyrim in a while. I guess I'll try it out now. Thanks for the help, everybody.

If you have the USKPs through Steam Workshop, they're obsolete. USKP is no longer up there because of technical constraints on what can be uploaded.

Indeed, one must get Unofficial Patches elsewhere from now on. Personally I'd recommend not using Workshop at all.

Wrye Bash gives far more control for managing mods than NMM does. It's slightly harder to use but only slightly.

For better or worse, modding is going mainstream. For most users, Steam Workshop is great for the mods that fit within its constraints. It does force mod authors to be smarter about how they roll out updates, though. And it obviously has limitations that are annoying (100mb limit and no ESM-flagged plugins).

I used to be the kind of person who set all my applications to not check for updates. I got really annoyed at Flash and some others that made it difficult to change the setting to not automatically update. At some point, I realized it was a waste of time, and I got over it. Valve knows users generally prefer auto-updates, and that is the direction everything is moving. Heck, most people cite the convenience of Steam's auto-updating as the primary reason they don't really mind Steam DRM in general.
