Did you like how "advlt" Fallout 2 was?

Sometimes when I go back and play Fallout 2 I just have to shake my head as I laugh. The game had so many advlt themes packed into it that it actually became childish in my opinion. Yet, it was hilarious. What did you think of Fallout 2's "advlt" themes, and what would you say if they were implemented in a modern Fallout?

I'm not gonna lie I don't find Fallout 2's humor to be as profound as people make out, having said that I've not done everything there is to do.Seymour the talking spore was a little weird.

Really? Walking into New Reno and just talking to people kind of confirmed the whole thing for me for years. Heck, you could pimp your wife. :fallout:

I honestly felt the sleazy and 'advlt' stuff were written as if some teenager thought that'd be so cool and edgy to make 'six ERRYWER! DRUGS! POP CULTOOR REFRANCEZ!' everywhere. If I could, I'd actually prefer to have have all that rubbish stripped off and be more in tune with the first Fallout's writing.

Do you know why there was such a dramatic shift? Even more important characters did this stuff, like Myron. Why did Black Isle suddenly make it about six and drugs?

The quest designers changed and the grandfather of Fallout left the project in a early stage. Fallout 2 looks like for me like we had a surprising successfull hit (Fallout) lets make it bigger and put as much stuff in it as we can. Not always a good thing imho. Some info about it from Tim Cain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laq9ua5VjTs.

I felt it went a little over-board in parts, particularly the porm thing. But the part you mentioned about being able to pimp your wife to the same porm studio or even selling her into slavery is deliciously dark and quite what I want from a Fallout game. So a mixed bag really.

But the pop-culture things went way to far.

And let's never talk about the

It was fine. Some of the stuff was clearly tongue in cheeck whle others were more serious in tone. Can't say it was perfectly in balance, but aside for a couple of instances it didn't really bother me all that much.

The game is rated M for mature so yeah it should be geared more towards advlts. The humor didn't used to bother me back in the day but it does now.

I like how New Vegas deals with advlt mature matters far more than how Fallout 2 deals with it. Fallout New Vegas takes it seriously, how people deal with drugs and so on. Fallout 2... not so much.

lol, when I said pimp your wife I was referring to the random encounters where trappers would ask to "get to know Miria". I suppose that counts too though :tops:

The "advlt" themes in Fallout 2 seemed to me to be the concoctions of a 14 year old boy who was forced to write a script for acting class or something.

It wasn't needed, and did nothing but turn me off completely from the game itself. The only reason I played it multiple times was because it was fallout

and I'm so hooked on the mythos that even if it's a text adventure I would play it just to stay immersed in the Fallout Universe for a little bit more.

I think the writing was horrible and somewhat made that way on purpose to see just how much they could get away with.

So no I did not like how "advlt" Fallout 2 was, even if I actually liked the poor excuse for a plot they built into it the sheer distastefulness of the so called

advlt themes and "humor" in that game would make the title a blight on my memory.

On an unrelated note I am still trying to figure out if all the yes' in the poll are an attempt at irony or people actually think what they did was good.
