Race factoring lycanthropy

Post » Mon Dec 23, 2013 7:27 pm

In skyrim, there's a book titled "On Lycanthropy", it details how race factors with the disease. In Elswyr, the khajit turn into werelions and in Black Marsh, there were reports of werecrocodiles. Even in Valenwood, the Bosmer become werevultures. Not to mention that there are rumors of weresharks patrolling the ocean's depths of Tamriel. Anyone want to see the return of wereboars? Should race factor into the equation?

Would redguards become wereapes? Though in the game, it obviously breaks the continuity of the book, maybe they could explain it as a new strand of the disease.

The book is from Daggerfall, actually. It's not in Skyrim without mods. And it doesn't say race factors into the disease, just which provinces the various types of werebeasts can generally be found. The games have never made race determine the type of werebeast you become, and I'm glad for that. I'd hate, for example, if Nords could only become werebears, or if Bretons could only become wereboars, etc. I like how the type of werebeast you become is determined by which one infects you.

I wouldn't mind different types of werebeasts again, though my personal preference is always with werewolves.

I feel the same way. I want to see different types of lycanthropes, and each of them be an option for the player.

Welcome to the forums!

Have a fishy stick!

I actually thought being a different race in skyrim would make me a different lycanthrope (I made a Khajit just to see if I could become a werelion but sadly...)

As Huleed said, the book actually details different types of Lycanthropy, not the fact that it affects different races differently.

Lycanthropy is a divine disease, created by Hercine, and isn't subject to the differences in races. Regardless of who you are, Altmer, Khajiit or Sload, if you contract the Wolf-Strain you will become a Werewolf, though your abilities in that state are subject to whatever tinkering Hercine has done with the blessing.

I would like to see other types of Lycanthropy, but i feel it would diminish the lore around Hercine if what you turned into was race-specific, rather than disease specific.
