also, is there a way to remove the reticule completely? I loved playing without it, would be nice to know how they did it.

Hm that's odd. Did you find out which mods was it conflicting with by chance?

Also there's a 'remove crosshair' option in the default game settings (under 'Display', scroll pass the subtitles toggles).
