Steam Ruins Skyrim

Post » Thu Dec 26, 2013 11:08 pm

So the [censored]storm that is Steam is REQUIRED to run Skyrim. I don't want to be spammed messages and update reminders. I don't want to have a [censored] client that takes just as much resources as the game itself running in the background. I just want to install my [censored] game and play it without having to install it from Steam...

Sorry, your just going to have to get used to it, and any further discussion on circumventing Steam is a discussion which is not permitted.

I BOUGHT the Elder Scrolls Anthology from a store. I have the [censored] box IN MY HAND. And I STILL need to install it from Steam. Read the original post.

Steam consumes resources? How the hell old machine do you have?

Welcome to reality. The thing is games today require some sort of DRM. Steam happens to be the least annoying one. If not Steam, then what else? Which DRM is better? Don't bother saying "no DRM at all", that's not part western game industry ideology. So what do you prefer if not Steam? Limited installs, old school disc check or what?

You can easily disable any reminders about games or updates in Options > Interface, the tickbox at the bottom.

Steam isn't that resource heavy. I've got it running in the background right now, downloading a Steam game at the same time, and all it takes is ~30MBs or RAM. That's nowhere as much as Skyrim takes (several hunders, and more when modded). Steam can take up to several hunderds MBs (up to 200 or 300 in my case) if you maximize the windows and browse store, community pages and such for a long time. Minimize the program it and all that shrinks to a couple dozen MBs in a second.

Dude, seriously, you should go see a therapist. All this rage because of a game can't be healthy.

1) YOU should read your original post.

2) what these guys^ said

It states on the back of the box - in a red box - that Steam is required. Sorry you will need a Steam account.

Steam is the reason many of us, myself included, did not buy Skyrim.

Of course, it's much better to know about that requirement BEFORE you buy the game.

OK guys, enough. It has been pointed out that Steam is required, that it doesn't take many resources to run and that he should have checked before buying.
