Stuttering caused by lack of VRAM?

Post » Fri Dec 27, 2013 4:20 am

I have an fx 8350 and a GTX 770 with 2gb of VRAM. I get stuttering on Skyirm, and I know that stuttering can be caused when the VRAM gets full. The Skyrim Performance Monitor showed me that I am on average using about 2000MB of VRAM. To get to the point, can someone please confirm that replacing my graphics card with a 4gb version would solve the problem?

I suggest using ENB Boost and give that a try.

Already done :) That only seems to affect normal RAM, which is nowhere near the 3.1gb limit! That's usually at 600MB.

Lots

ENB realvision, 2K texture pack, landscape textures, character enhancement

Based on the fact that I am using 2gb usually (and I'm not getting rid of these mods :)) would upgrading to a 4gb card solve the problem? I've seen people on the internet saying that for Skyrim with mods it is a good idea to get more than 2gb.

I do not know. Since I only have a laptop for playing the game.

Upgrading will likely help to a 4gb card but it is not only only the memory size but the speed of the memory the video card uses and speed of the cards processor.

The issue might not just be with the graphics card being stressed to the limit but a lot of mods running your processor might have to go through a lot of extra calculations, especially if you have a lot of mods that are script intensive.

Ah the max cpu usage was about 30%!

The GTX 770 is pretty powerful. With all these mods I get about 80-100fps except in some demanding locations.

Actually, the extra mod's goes straight ahead to your GPU ram. That's good, because fast video cards using DDR5 instead of the system DDR3 memory.

But keep in mind there is a barrier at 3.1 GB memory. (concerning skyrim anyway. !!!!!).

Above that memory limit you get a crash to the desktop.

It could be because skyrim is an 32 bit game, but only beth knows why. !!!!
