Skyrim - real life role play?

Post » Wed Jan 01, 2014 6:07 am

Did you ever try a real life Skyrim role play? No magic except shouts and enchanting (which the game would be boring without). You only drink potions to heal yourself. You sleep every night and eat at least 3 meals a day. Make your own armor and weapons. And no fast traveling. Just jogging or horses.

I thought this was gonna be about larping out in the park with toy swords wearing a bedsheet like a cape, lol.

I often do nearly all of what you outlined when I play skyrim but I nearly always fast travel. If I'm not fast travelling I'm going out with the specific intent to adventure, but if I want to get somewhere I FT. Don't regret it, because after playing for 2 solid years I can still wander out and find new stuff.

I'm under the impression that most of the users (myself included) do almost all of the things you said (aside from the smithing and shouting thing, I do what lever fits my characters RP).
Rarely fast travel (maybe 1-3 times per character)
Always sleep (at the very least 5 hours)
Eat several times a day
Etc. Etc.

This is the way I play most of my characters.

* No spells

* No scrolls

* No potions

* No Shouts

* No Alchemy

* No Enchanting

* No use of pre-enchanted weapons, armor or jewelry

* No map-based fast travel

My characters sleep, drink, eat and bathe regularly. How often they do these things varies, depending on the character. They take their clothes or armor off when they bathe or go swimming. They use gear looted off enemies if it is appropriate for that character to do so. They smith if it is appropriate.

Most of them put on town clothes when they are in town. Those that change clothes usually get out of sight when they do it so no one will see. They mostly travel on foot. When they travel on foot they walk about 70% of the time and run about 30% (depending on the physical fitness of the character). After combat ends my characters walk for a time, to simulate being exhausted from the effort of fighting.

I play my warrior characters like this trying to keep things on the real side by not using magic. For healing I will use alchemy since its a real world skill along with potions. I drink after every battle to quench my thirst and catch my breath. If its a male character he will use a bow mainly for hunting while a female character will use a bow for hunting and combat. I eat every three or six hours and get at least six hours of sleep every day. I never go on killing or crime sprees and respect the laws of the land as I would in the real world. I should be a bit more hesitant about picking up things in dungeons and abandoned places though. Of course when its obvious there are non-hostiles who live in a hostile fortress I will kill off the bad guys and leave most of what is there for the non-hostile npcs like a certain old lady in a fortress inhabited by bandits. I also find myself leaving a torch or some food and clothes etc laying around for any adventurers who might explore the same area in the future. Who knows if they will be starving when they find the place I visited a while back.

I use Alchemy since its more realistic than the others. I don't think its considered magic in the game. I don't use enchantments on my weapons but only on jewelry to improve my smithing.

Boring. Mostly because theoretically I can do those things in real life. What I can't do is scream at people and they go flying or shoot fireballs out of my hands.

That's more or less what I do with my current character, if by enchanting you mean using enchanted stuff, not enchanting them myself. But, who eat 3 meals a day? I eat only one in real life... and toasted bread and butter with my coffee in the morning, which is not a real meal. :smile:

All the time. I roleplay and use mods to maximize immersion. Mods force me to do things like eating, drinking, sleeping, keeping warm, bandaging & stitching wounds, using a splint on a broken leg etc. so I can't ignore or forget them.

Then unfortunately you have to just pretend everything.

On PC with mods you can also become drunk in the game with a blurry screen and stumbling. It's fun. :D

I normally don't fast travel because Skyrim is so beautiful and the random encounters are pretty cool sometimes. Plus you can get somewhere faster by running or using a horse than "fast travel".

I've heard about how nice you guys have it on pc. I would get the PC version but I have a slow computer and can't afford a gaming laptop at the moment. But hopefully I'll get the next elder scrolls game on PC.

From 1 meal, I guess. Sounds a bit like starving oneself
