Miraak Game Breaking Bug - Any Ideas? SPOILERS

Post » Wed Jan 01, 2014 8:02 pm

I'm just finishing dragonborn and I'm up to the Miraak fight. The first time I get his health low he goes to regenerate in the middle of the floor. However he then just stays ethernal permanently. I've tried using dragonrend to bring his dragons down to no avail. Is there any fix for this shocking, pathetic, idiotic bug please?

I can't believe Bethesda think it's acceptable to just leave game breaking bugs like this in. It's absolutely cowardly

had this plus other bugs

The trick is to reload an earlier save (hopefully you have one) and when fighting him, instantly stop the moment he teleports into the pool. DO NOT attack him while he does his little sissy bring down a dragon and slay it to regenerate. Leave him alone. Only attack him when he attacks you.

Weapon damage has something to do with it. But you can cause this bug with magic as well so just don't hit him at all when he teleports away.

I don't think Bethesda understood how high players would get the damage and enchants on their weapons. Miraak is one time where using the Ultimate Sword of Deathiness isn't a good idea.

Not that I ever did that or anything.

It's probably the single most pathetic final boss battle in history to be honest. What could have been an epic battle has become a bug avoidance exercise. Bethesda should hang their heads in shame and pass the franchise on to someone who is capable.

I thought it may be weapon damage so I'm using my fists for now and even then it doesn't work. He just runs over to his paddling pool and stands there then does a shout but his dragons don't land for him to take their souls.

I'll try avoiding hitting him straight after he has become ethernal though to see if that works

There have been glitches with the final fight even without super powerful weapons, unfortunately.

Since it works most of the time, for most people, it might be best if Beth left it alone. I still remember the one patch. It was hard to forget. Dragons in Skyrim were flying backwards.

I've never had this bug. Like ever and I even used my sword of deathness xD. (Great sword that did 256 damage)

Try re-loading a past save, that should fix everything.

I love this EP but yeah it's the most lame battle - just against him - not the entire scenario of him eating dragons. I thought that was great touch to how much of a big fat stupid bully he was. And how scared he is of you. But you have to be delicate with him and not take his health down. You're to powerful and scripts must catch up and let him do his thing before tentacle boy can do his thing. It's like you're in a play with actors instead of an actual fight.

I was in a play once where I was suppose to assault another. It was my first time acting on a stage and because I was nervous I hit him to hard. Felt like a real dushe later on when he told me. That's what this reminds me of. Except here I only feel bad for the dragons.

Yeah don't hit him when he becomes ethernal.

I also had another bug with this quest and it was the end. I had him beat down. he was out of dragons and would teleport into the pool and never return. I fixed this somehow by installing Skyrim on a new computer when that one broke.

I managed to get past this eventually. I don't know if it's just me but it seemed the only Dragon that was around for the fight at the start was the one you ride in on hence the reason Miraak couldn't regenerate with dragon souls. He just did a shout which I assume is supposed to call a dragom for him to eat but none came.

I had to dragonrend the dragon that I rode in on and then sacrifice him myself to give Miraak a soul. Quite an awful workaround but it worked. The second time he did the *stand in the pool and shout* action a dragon came as it should.

This battle is pretty ruined though. You really shouldn't have to worry about all these bugs as you play the very last battle of the game and the dlcs which should be absolutely epic. I hope you rot in game developer hell bethesda

The bug happens if you manage to get through the entire Dragonborn questline without Miraak stealing a soul from you after killing a dragon. Just reload a previous save, go find a dragon and kill it, let Miraak steal its soul and then go back and fight him - it should fix the issue.

That's interesting. Thanks. I'll look into that. Although I'm sure he stole 1 from me but I may be wrong. I did notice though that I killed a dragon on solstheim at one point and he never stole it's soul which seems strange.

Where did you find out about this by the way? I'm not questioning you, it's just that you seem quite certain that this is related

I thought the game was scripted so that there was a dragon attack as soon as you landed on Solstheim.

The wiki and the wikia both state that after the first dragonsoul that Miraak steals there's a 25% chance that he will reappear when you kill another dragon. If he does reappear and one of the issues that prevents Miraak from stealing the soul occurs he will remain ethereal and the "At the Summit" quest cannot be completed. The wiki/wikia give ways to "fix" the bug.

From what you've said previously you may have had at least one encounter where Miraak stole a soul, but if there was another and he didn't get the soul that may be why he is stuck. Hope that helps if only a little!

Cheers!

Bram
