How and when do I start Dragonborn : V

So I just got Skyrim Legendary edition (with the anthology).
I had Dawngaurd on xbox so I know how to start that, Hearthfire doesn't have a quest line, so how do i start the Dragonborn DLC, and what level do I have to be? If not a specific level what level do you recommend to start it at?

You should get attacked by a few cultists. Play around for a bit until it happens.

You can go to solthseim anytime by going to wind helm and buying passage. The actual main dragon born quest starts at around level 10 I think when you get attacked by cultists.

You have to have had the quest from the Greybeards to get the Horn, and then 2 cultists will attack you. Does not matter what level you are. If you have the Greybeard quest at level 4, 10, or level 50. When you get the quest, you will be attacked by 2 cultists. Then there is a note on one of them. Hope that helped.

Or you can get the ship like PKMN12 said, but that does not really start the quest, I do not think. The quest officially starts when you read the note on the body of one of the cultists. But it is advised to go at a higher level, for the enemies there are really strong.

2 ways

1. Do the some of the MQ until you are attacked by cultists (start the horn of Jurgen milkington)

2. Kill the 1st dragon in the MQ and then go to Balgruuf. go straight to solsthiem and go to the word wall with the dragon and draugr just chillin. unlock that word then use the shout on the stone on solsthiem with the Skaal at, then go to Skaal village and speak to the Shaman.

Also, make sure to have done the Dragon Rising quest in the main story. That triggers the cultists.

The cultists will attack when you've done the first few quests of the main quests - no main quest, no cultists.
It's possible 10 is the lowest level, I don't know - I've only done the MQ with one character since I bought Dragonborn, and she was high level and well into the MQ when I installed it.

Edit 2: if you haven't started the MQ, going to Solstheim will NOT trigger the Dragonborn main quest.
