J. Sawyer's Fallout New Vegas Mod

I'm curious as to how many of you have played Sawyer's New Vegas Mod on hardcoe mode and what you thought of it. Too hard, too easy? What did you think of the modifications to the level and experience system and to various pieces of weaponry, clothing and armor? That sort of thing. Thanks in advance for chiming in.

I'll start by saying that I'm a lover of this mod, so anything I put out there is probably a bit skewed in that direction.

The J.S. mod definitely makes the game harder, but does give you a few breaks. Armor is a good example; combat armor weighs just 12# instead of the normal 25#, and it affords more protection by adding damage resistance to the standard damage threshold. The downside is that with 5 strength, you only start with a 100# carry capacity. That can be viewed as a positive, though. Before, I used to have insane amounts of things stashed in chests at The Lucky 38, and found myself caught in a trap of constant inventory manipulations...now I spend more time immersed in adventure, and still have more money than I can spend at mid levels.

The mod really re balances many things, more intelligently, I think. After all, he was the main man on New Vegas development. I've said before that the game just feels more complete and natural with it in. People seem to be somewhat polarized about the mod, so the best thing is probably to try it and see if it's for you or not.

Btw...I usually play Very Hard, hardcoe, Dead is Dead..and yes, I get killed a lot :bonk:

Once I found out that the solution that it's "too easy to heal" is to take it out on Medicine by nerfing Stimpaks (not just ease of acquisition, but overall effectiveness), I lost interest. If one wants to make it harder to heal, remove healing from food.

But http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1457975-the-unfair-bias-against-medicine/, that'd diminish the One Skill To Rule Them All: Survival.

You bad ol' puddy tat...I hope you choke on a fur ball! Sorry, Freudian slip...

Actually, your criticisms are valid ones. Medicine is emasculated and Survival is God on steroids. My solution of sorts is that I rarely run either of those skills above 25. I then find myself favoring Stimpacks because of the weight advantage, though I do usually carry 2 or 3 food items, too. I rarely have much use for either except when there are explosives about. On the Hydra vs. Doctor's bags...I can usually find more Hydra than I'll use, so I've never crafted it and I try to use Dr. Bags if the injuries are limited and upper body, or gimp my way to a doctor if I have a leg injury. But, people want different things in a game...
