Best outfit for a Mage?

Post » Fri Jan 03, 2014 12:52 am

I just made a High Elf Mage and am wondering what's the best thing to wear for her?
I have the archmage robes, the mask of the dragon priest in labrynthian, vampire boots, and cultist gloves. I'm wearing Savos Arens amulet as well. I want to be able to make the full use of Magika by increasing magika itself and boosting regen rate. Currently, I have 310 magika (I'm level 10), and without HighBorn have a magika regen bonus of 200%.
I'm sure there are items that can further this. Anyone know?

(If it helps, I'm an Illusion based Mage. And when Illusion fails I rely on destruction to get me out)

Pretty much anything you can enchant yourself while also looking decent.

Mages got shafted when it came to clothing. At least on consoles.

There is a set of Boots in the Archmages Quarters that give a resistance to Shock.

The Mages Circlet is a levelled Item, and at lower levels is no better than the Novice Hood, but the Maximum Enchantment is a plus 70 Magicka.

The Illusion Master Robes have a better Enchant for an Illusion User than the Archmages Robes. Most of the higher end Robes actually have a better Enchantment than a Master Enchanter is capable of crafting in the Game.

Raising Your characters Skill in Enchanting is the best source of powerful items on everything but Robes.

depends on what you mean

If you refuse to use armor for RP or challenge purposes this is what i THINK is a good combo for enchantments (Actually this works for any armor/cloths),

Fortify magicka regen Rate and Fortify Health on a Ring
Fortify Magicka and Fortify Carry Weight on gloves.
Fortify Magicka regen Rate and Water breathing on Helmet.
Fortify magicka and Fortify magicka regen Rate on Necklace
reduction cost for 2 spells types on robes
Resist Fire and Resist Frost on Boots
EDIT: should mention this is good for eventually having this stuff when possible, archmage's robes are a good choice for their enchantment and as said there are boots

"Raising Your characters Skill in Enchanting is the best source of powerful items on everything but Robes. "

besides the archmages robes, there is nothing you cannot enchant better than. the master robes are, IMO, useless as their enchantments are not as good as dual enchanted anything, robes or otherwise.

For level 10 you're hideously overpowered and you should be fine wearing what you're wearing.

He could be playing on Legendary, I personally don't think he's overpowered at all. Maybe he has a slight advantage over his enemies.

I always go with what is the most aesthetically pleasing for my character. For a mage I have real trouble finding a nice outfit. The robes don't look very nice, and if you're using armour it's quite hard to find a pleasing set for a mage. If you DO end up using armour, I suggest either Stahlrim or Falmer Hardened armour depending on which way your morality swings.

For clothing..... Sorry, I got nothing. =/

Hahaha. Good choice of words.

But I'd say get rid of Morokei and the Vampire Boots (if theyre the Light Armor version). Youre gimping your mage armor bonus for such little AR. Replace them with cloth boots and a circlet.
