The Appearance Of Tes V

Post » Tue Apr 27, 2010 12:08 am

Calm down, I didn't see anyone here calling Oblivion a piece of crap.

Either way, I find it funny how people get so defensive over videogames. :P

lol. I know what you mean. I have, at times, got defensive about sevral parts of Morrowind or Oblivion, then on another topic, turned around and attacked them for another thing. xD
I think the trouble with moden computer role playing games is that, at times, gaming compaies (not naming any names. lol) try to appeal to everyone, and since the avarage gamer does not have a very good attention span or the disire to role play (I mean actual role play) then games get a little dumbed down, but at the same time, they advance in other areas. Take Oblivion for exsample:
It's my own oppinion that Oblivion's combat is better than Morrowinds, becasue I hate roll-to-hit combat in a real time game, but at the same time, it's lost the rules factions to which Morrowinds fighting worked, so it's a double-edged sword. Each game has it's great and bad sides. I think games will always be like that, and I expect TES V to be like that to.

Theres 2 choices, and the game ends exactly the same, you get images showing you what you done through the game. And thats hardly 100s of endings.

  • 1 video that is always the same
  • 1 of 3 videos that are shown depending on the karma of the player
  • 1 of 6 videos that are shown depending on the quests the player made
  • 1 of 3 videos that are shown depending on what choice the player did at the end
  • 1 of 3 videos that are shown depending on what companion followed the player to the end (added with Broken Steel)
  • 1 of 3 videos that are shown depending on what the player do with FEV
  • 1 of 2 videos that are shown depending on the player gender
  • 1 of 8 videos that are shown depending on the player race and gender

1*3*6*3*3*3*2*8 = 7776 different endings. Even without the gender videos there are 486 possible variations.

there are 7776 slide shows. Vanilla FO3 has 2 endings. And expansions make the game world a world, not some black hole of a story.

Edit: sorry if I missed some humor.

I agree, slideshows do not make an ending. Its like saying there are hundreds and hundreds of different guns in the game with that customize mod (magazine, red dot, scopes) when really there are only a few that have a altered variations. And AK is still an AK even with the scope.

The are taking something and trying to sell it by making it sound much better than it is when they do this. Its not very honest imo.

Of course two ending are still better than one. I like the idea of a few distinct ending like if you're evil, good, or neutral, rather than thousands of shallow... slide shows was it?

Bolded the main part of the post, cause this is about TES not FO

Yeah, and in Oblivion, it might have been cool if you could of been a deadric price( maybe a expansion). Or maybe fight with the mythic dawn, even though they annoyed me!

One thing I think though that with out a doubt should be brought back is Multiple Outcomes. In the main quest-lines of Morrowind and Oblivion, You had the ending decided for you. When I played Morrowind, I kinda wished that I could use the Heart of Lorkhan myself to drive all the outlanders from Morrowind, and restore Dunmer sovereignty, which Dagoth Ur asks what you would do, insinuating you had a choice.

Daggerfall had a total of 6 endings, and I think it would add to the level of "Player Definition" if we had more than 1 ending to choose from. Our actions should determine the outcome of the game.

yes i agree.

I like how you could tell dagoth ur you had your own special plan for the heart of lorkhan. At which point you would kinda steal his thunder. Its sad that i wasn't able to use it for my super secret plan of world domination.

Anyone here who decides to call Oblivion a "piece of crap" needs to walk over to the bathroom, look in the mirror, and ask themselves when was the last time they were hired to be part of a creative development team. After that, put the keyboard in the old socks drawer and go back to playing Halo.

While I wouldn't use the phrasing "piece of crap," your comment amuses me. If someone believes the sum of Oblivion's parts to result in a truly terrible game, is their opinion automatically invalidated in your eyes, bypassing all reasoning and argument? Huh. That almost sounds as knee-jerk and unreasonable as all those people who hide in the rafters shouting "Oblivion is teh suxxorz!!!"

Also, why Halo? Considering the demographics of those more likely to call Oblivion a piece of crap, wouldn't it be more fitting to say, "go back to playing pen and paper?"

You did get to become a daedric prince in an expansion. Ever heard of Shivering Isles?

no sir...ive been playin d&d pnp for like15-16 yrs now and i think OB is a great game with some flaws. haha those same peeps hiding in the rafters probly played through nearly every quest, with multiple char's, and because its not as indepth as its predecessors,"its a terrible game". any time i play a game that i think is terrible *most platformers* i dont spend time lurking on the forums that have to do with that game, complaining.

I would rather create my own realm, but I don't have the means to mod, nor a pc copy of Oblivion.

On another note, since TESV is most likely to be set in Skyrim, I hope I get to become the Thane of my own Great Hall, and a return of Nordic Mail Armor.

Thinking about TESV, anyone think that there's a chance that Hammerfell and High Rock can be put in the game as well?
