I'm reproducing here the explanation that Siggy posted in the Cryleague's Facebook group:
"Hi guys, Siggy here!
Bringing Cryleague down, I would like to make a statement why this happened at the first place. I know there were people still using it and I believe they deserve some kind of explanation.
From the very beginning when I started to work on this thing, Cryleague wasn't supposed to be just a place for server administrators (unfortunately, it ended up as one). As its name tells, it was supposed to be place where all the competitive action related to Crysis 3(2?) takes place!
Yes, couple of tournaments were organised by Cryleague, but I'm talking about something... more. About a league. Constantly keeping players' stats, presenting them in the way that would be meaningful. Evaluating these stats and picking a winner once per certain period of time (once a month?). Imagine playing for a month as you regularly do, but you would be able to check your position on a TDM ladder, or a Spears ladder, or a best K/D ladder, or a ... you've got the idea. And of course, there cannot be a winner without a price. I simply believe that keeping constant level of competitive play in the game is something that might keep players in the community and even bring new ones into it. That was the initial goal.
In order to accomplish all this, there needed to be a lot of work done on the side of Cryleague. And believe it or not, the whole implementation on the side of Cryleague was actually in place. There was just one thing remaining to be done - we needed access to Crysis 3 players' stats. Cryleague basically needed what other sites (e.g. http://crysis3s.com/) already have. So from technical point of view, not really a problem (IMHO). But this never happened. RCON, support for streaming, place where you can share Crysis footage videos, tournaments - these all were meant to show Crytek that this project is something that we are serious about and I hoped that we will be granted access to the data we needed.
Back then, I communicated with one of the Crytek's representative quite intensively regarding this topic and they seemed to be opened to the idea. Finally, after quite some PMs exchanged, they asked me about some technical details how I'd like to see this thing working. I sent them proposal and that's about it. I never got the answer.
What, where, why... make your own opinion.
And as I started this speech - Cryleague was never meant to be just a place for RCON tool. But it ended up as one. And despite the fact that people were still using it, it became quite expensive thing just for RCON. And that's the reason it went down.
I would really like to thank to Blutaar666 who was keeping an eye on Cryleague, communicating with the community, organizing tournaments, etc etc etc... you did an excellent job my friend, thank you very very much
I know there were some other people helping with things as well (Crazyfist, etc.). Thank you guys very much as well. Nothing will be forgotten
I hope that the lines above explain why thing ended up as they did. In the name of Cryleague - thank you and have a really nice time with the games you love!
Siggy"
