Finally rediscovering my love for anime in full. Have the first collection of One Piece episodes sitting on my desk, which I'm going to start watching in earnest when I can. :D

A question for Dragonball Z fans, forgive my temerity. Is a fairly large portion of the popularity of Dragonball Z mostly born of nostalgia? It seems to have been around for longer than most anime, and it's easily what most people associate anime with when they think of it. Not saying it's a bad show, I just want to know why it's so popular (no, I've yet to watch it, but I will sometime in the future).

a lot of it's nostalgia. some people just really like manly action-heavy anime with a lot of crazy fights. maybe somebody out there genuinely thinks it's a well-written story, i'm not gonna knock them.

in my personal experience most of the people who [censored] themselves over DBZ and consider it one of the best shows of all time really only ever watched anime on Toonami and hold that Cowboy Bebop is the pinnacle of Japanese cultural achievement and that anime today is nothing but cute girls doing cute things.

Because it was simple and lovable. Dragonball is better the Dragonball Z though. And yes, nostalgia is also part of it, but I don't care.
