Replicated Man Pipboy Glitch Warning

Post » Sat Jan 04, 2014 7:17 am

Hello everyone you can call me Z. This is my first post and possibly my only post but I felt the need to inform fellow vault dwellers. I am a Fallout freak in the sense that I literally collect one of every single item I come across in game from single cigarettes, pencils, each size of surgical tubing ect.. so again I am a Fallout freak. Well recently I took the game back up and of course started spending hours and hours collecting every item that I found while carefully trying to 100% complete my good character. During the Replicated Man quest I encountered a glitch that I can reproduce by jumping through the same hoops even on new profiles. This particular glitch should be fixed but since I know it will not be I can only hope you read this and avoid it entirely. This glitch will cause all of your collected holotapes to no longer work at all. Any holotapes collected after the glitch will still work but unfortunately despite many attempts at fixing the glitch, you will not be able to ever again listen to any holotapes you collected up to the point the glitch occurs. This glitch quite frankly is a joke as there is no way to know you are causing this to happen and there is no fix. I should mention I am on xbox 360.

So here is the glitch for you. During the end of The Replicated Man you can end the quest in a few various ways. Depending on how you end this quest will depend on whether or not you get glitched out. What I did to cause the glitch was go to Harkness and activate his memory then instead of telling him about Dr. Zimmer I simply said " Don't worry, your secret is safe with me." He then gave me his named rifle and the quest was completed. I then wanted Zimmer off the boat so I met with him in the science lab. At this point I have not yet spoken with Dr. Zimmer even once. Zimmer is still here pestering the science team about the android despite me having completed the quest. I then offer to find the android for Zimmer. He hands me a few things one of witch is a holotape. At this point everything is still working. So I then choose to "lie" to zimmer and hand him the android component claiming the android is dead hoping he will pay me some caps. This is literally what causes the glitch. He takes the component and leaves the ship forever ruining all collected holo tapes on your pip boy thus far. When I say ruined I mean you can still see the holotapes on the pip boy but when you choose to play them nothing happens. If you collect holotapes after this they will work but none of the ones you had prior to the glitch will ever work again.

I started a few profiles attempting to solve where the glitch takes place and if it was fixable and was able to narrow it down to exactly when you lie to Zimmer about the android. It must have something to do with already completing the quest through Harkness but honestly I have no idea. All I can say is I am pretty upset about this as I have no way of going back to undo what has been done and I cannot start this game over after everything I've done so far. Also I looked and looked on google and only found one other person who had this issue. Of course I have no idea if this issue has ever been discussed in these forums before or not but, from my Google searching, only one other person ever mentioned it. Here is the only other person I have found who mentioned the glitch: ( SORRY I DIDN'T KNOW I COULDN'T POST LINKS SO THERE IS A MISSING LINK HERE ) As you can see its on PS3 and this player was doing The Replicated Man Quest: So it is possible you may be able to reproduce the glitch on PC as well.

If this helps anyone then I have accomplished my goal although I do realize I'm a little late with this warning :)

P.S

I apologize for spelling, grammar and punctuation errors, I'm pretty bad with those.

First, welcome to the forums, have a http://images.uesp.net/c/c4/Fishystick.jpg.

Also, this is hugely spoilerific and I am asking it to be moved to Cheats, Hints and Spoilers Section of this forum. I'd be willing to talk about it there.... but it sounds to me like you have intentionally gone out of your way to not activate this quest, as most nearly 100% of all players would do, by talking to the quest-giver, who you would encounter, by following the MQ. See how hard it is to talk without spoilers?

I, when a selfish character is being played, end the quest, in a way not actually intended by the devs. I get the best of both worlds, if you know what I mean.

I ask this to be moved.
