It's time for Hexen to come back.

There is no doubt that no is the time to work on and bring Hexen back.

None of that plot crap wolfenstien is getting though. I don't need guys to talk to me while they open doors my guns for hands cannot open. I want big fights with weird spells and other things with lots of fun weird combat in a setting you normally don't see in action games. Serious Sam and shadow warrior are showing a more classic kill the dudes and find the stuff game can come out for the modern market and Hexen needs to happen again.

It was extremely RPG light and violent and weird in the type of world normally told it has to go play in the RPG pen with the other RPGs and then it bullied them around a while and that is why I feel it's time for Hexen to come back.

The core team who developed Hexen (excluding Brian and Steve Raffel and Eric C. Biessman) left Raven to form Human Head Studios in 1997. Considering the appalling treatment they received from Bethesda it would insulting if Zenimax purchased the series. Hexen's a classic, but I don't want Bethesda anywhere near it.

Really? Link please. There hasn't been any mention of since the 2009 buyout so I assumed Activision owned the licence.

Raven was working on Hexen 3 in 2007 but cancelled it after Wolfenstein (2009) went off the rails. They had to overhaul Wolf from a true open-world to a hub-style approach.

Ah, you're completely right. Activision just handled distribution. That means Bethesda owns the Hexen and Heretic licences. *Vomiting emoticon* 5 years and nothing to show for it.

Here you go: http://hellraid.com/

No need for Bethesda to bring back Hexen as another "classic" old style game with nothing we haven't seen before. Hell, even with Wolfenstein I hope they've done more than what we've seen. Just shooting enemies with dumb ("classic") AI doesn't warrant a remake for the prettier graphics.

If Bethesda brings back Hexen (doubtable since they have the bigger TES) they'd have to get serious with it. The world of Hexen has huge potential and wasting it on a dumb shooter type of RPG isn't the best way to handle it, imo. As the saying goes, "Go big or go home."

Hellraid is a Dead Island reskin. It started an internal mod at Techland, before becoming a budget title. The gamepaly is nothing like Hexen. Lichdom looks like a safer bet for Hexen fans (http://lichdom.com/blog/category/media/) or better yet the Doom 3 total conversion (http://hexenmod.net/) Edge of Chaos.

Hexen and Heretic are wonderful games, that have tons of potential for a fantastic reboot. But considering how Bethesda's handled Prey, Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein maybe it's better left in the 90's.

Yes I was mislead on first impressions. Hellraid certainly looks like Hexen at first, much more so than the bright Lichdom video.

I would also recommend Edge of Chaos. That's as close as you'll get to what you're asking for, Chiatroll. I tried out the early release and that was a joy, I imagine it will only get better.

I don't argue that the Heretic/Hexen games could have great reboots -in fact I said they have huge potential- but simply giving them a graphical new coat is a total waste of that potential. They'd have to be much more than just arcade fantasy shooters.

You can't sacrifice a great game's potential for the sake of dumbed down nostalgia. Look at Nintendo's take on Mario reboots (MarioLand in 3d), they think of new unique ways to present the game instead of copying the original for the sake of "oldschool" feeling.

With a game like Heretic/Hexen, that "plot crap" stuff is what would make a much better experience. Fleshed out characters and plot could only make the universe of these games much more immersive. They don't need to have complex RPG elements to have a good plot.

Phew! According to the developers of Hexen: Edge of Chaos, Activision own the Hexen licence. I'm sure they would know since they're creating a game based off that licence. That means, however unlikely, Raven might get to work on Hexen again one day. :D http://www.moddb.com/mods/hexen-edge-of-chaos/#4327188
